Was that at The Roundhouse Pedro? Saw some great performances there, free.

No, Jeff. The concert I went to was held on the forecourt outside the Union building at ANU.

It takes practice to be good at it but I have shown occasional signs of promise.

Vale Burt Bacharach

If you have ever seen Burt interviewed you will know he was not a wordsmith (that was Hal David provided the lyrics) but, boy could he write some good tunes. And they weren't just simple pop songs, many had multiple key and time signature changes, unusual chrd progressions and notes appearing where you would not expect. But they worked, well.

When I heared he died I thought I should post a clip of one of his greatest songs. But which one, and sung by which artist? So many great songs and so many great artists have sung them. My first thought was to wimp out and post "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head. Everyone knows it and easy to sing along.

Then I saw an article in the paper today of his 12 best songs and one I never realised was one of his. So here it is;

And the original theme to Casino Royale. Wonderful music.

And "Close to you" that Karen sang. Another great loss.

Burt's music is one of those that you would take to a desert island if you were only allowed a couple, (along with The Beatles).

That's an impressive list. Some on there surprised me eg The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa.

Yes,surprised with those, certainly a talented duo with David.

There were a couple of Sisters(can't think of their names) that sang Pitney songs on the Sydney Pub circuit in the 1970's and they used to bring the roof down, didn't kick on to bigger things but i think they recorded 'Trans Canada H/way'.

Sad Loss

RIP.

Certainly some great songs on that list. It is like a trip down memory lane.

What's New Pussycat was a big hit for Tom Jones, written by you know who.

Thanks for that, I've never seen Tom do that one.
The ones I know are BJ Thomas and of course our Johnny.

At one of his concerts Tommy asked if there were any guitar players in the audience, a little voice replied, "not anymore".

Once, years ago I went to the Country Music Awards at Tamworth. I wanted to go to a concert featuring Tommy but it was sold out. So I went to a pub where Phil Emmanual was playing with his band. Late in the evening brother Tommy walked in and said "I have finishied my gig, just come to help Phil pack up". Of course he couldn't resist, picked up a spare guitar and joined in. The punters, including me, were very happy.

Another one departed. A great singer and human rights activist.

Yet another entertainment great goes. Was she simply the best? Arguable but she was very good.

P.S. Keith, rumoured to be aged 187, is outliving them all!
