Is someone able to tell me a bit about the shillings with the dots in between the horn?? I can't find any info on the variety

Thanks in advance

Matt

Hey Matt, my book says most shillings of the 50's and 60's can have "Dot(s) in circle of Rams Horn." Will see if I have any and will post a pic. tomorrow.!

Mister T

I think that the dots in the horn are part of the design but are very prone to die fill. Proofs might have the full design of what's in the curl of the horn.

Yes AJ, the 1961 appears that way. I've got some pics of a 1957 somewhere and the dots are more dots in it from memory. (Still looking).

This one has a small one there.

I thought it was meant to be the ear?

ausjack

Found the 1957 pics (not as clear as I thought but dots are there).
Coin was a bit on the ordinary though ....

I am pretty sure that this is the ear part of the design.
The better the strike = the more detail :ok:
A bit like the number of steps found on a well struck

Exactly!  I've seen some real cracker ones posted, but can't remember where. Had to be either here or CCF.
