If ya can MG get them to weight it might give you a bit more of an idea

I will ask him about the weight, he apparently has already taken it to a dealer in Perth and the dealer seemed to think it was real.

I think Perth Mint made paperweights with the same design and on a number of occasions people have removed the felt pad on the bottom and have tried to pass off the paperweight as rare uniface pattern,

MattGold

Ahhhh true, I might have to google and see if I can find a pic of them.. I know that my friend has 2 other coins that look exactly the same as the kookaburra silver except that they are both alot larger in diameter than the 2oz kookaburra and get this, they are made out of aluminium. He said that who he bought them off said they were used for advertising
The same person had sold him the 2oz with the blank side but that one is silver he said. I'm just waiting to hear back from mate to see what the weight is..

Will the Perth Mint authenicate their products?  When he's in Perth, he could take it there.-John

OK, I'm confused....

Five months ago, he posted:
"Here are some more images showing the measurements of the 1993 2 oz Kookaburra. I have also attached a closeup image of the obverse of this coin. My brother is going to take it to a dealer on Monday to see if they can test it for silver." along with pics of the measurements. Then what happened?

The paperweights weren't that small. And as previously noted, they were plated Aluminium. I've got a gold one lying around someplace...

My guess, given the look of the obverse, is that its been machined.

Notice the concentric circles? Somebody pulled a double scam, shaving off 1/10 oz of silver and also trying to pass it off as an error ("misprint" indeed, LOL!). If you have the coin at hand, look for marks on the rim.

Well was speaking with my mate this morning and I think he said that that is his sister that posted the coins on silverstackers, he didn't even know she had put them on there and was hell surprised when I sent him the link.. He is gonna have a chat with her and see if they can make another appointment or something at the Perth Mint and sort this out once and for all..

Fulvio

How did they come about these anyway?

He did tell me but I've forgotten, I will ask again. They were his brothers..

to my knowledge the Perth Mint only sells with the Queens effigy and a denomination - otherwise they have to pay tax on the item

I have a few perth mint silver ones oz medallions - no Queenie
the mint got slugged tax
then recalled and melted and re-issued with the Queens effigy - tax free

the middle coin in the photo looks like an aluminium cast to me
some bloke on e-bay (in WA) was flogging them off as unique large 'trial uniface coins'- I remember the listings as I had bought off the seller as well
