It may just be me but every now and then I tend to Change lanes and change direction in my collecting goals .
I have always had a love of the pre decimal coins and will always actively upgrade these sets.
I had a "Thing" for NCLT Silver sets and have most of the Masterpieces in silver sets along with many other NCLT Silver issues.
Most of which are not the standard size decimal coins.
They are beautifully made but I have lost the passion for these coins.
I am considering selling these to fund my new Passion  the Decimal coins.
I have only been collecting Decimal coins seriously for a couple of years now and it will take me quite a bit of time and money to get all the sets complete.

Am I the only one that does this, or do any of you "Change Lanes" every now and then as well

I got divorced once
does that count?

I tend to make like a tree and grow another limb. My collection will just add tangents and I don't get rid of much. When I do I am in physical pain.

yes, people change their track often

I was an avid halfpenny collector and now don't collect all that many except for what I mostly get in lots

I get accused of being a hoarder too

I change all the time, it all depends on finances, what's available, and how interested I am in coins at the time. I hardly get rid of anything either. My recent mini proclamation coin clear out is probably the most coins I have let go at one time. It wasn't easy either.

After a brief dalliance with mint product, I have stuck with gold sovereigns through the thick and thin for almost seventeen years. Never thought of going another way, although my "lanes" continue to expand!

Do three ex's count if you didn't divorce them? ;)

And I'm with PP on this... just add more branches. The one time I sold anything, I got burned very badly. Former forum member too.. :(

I have done that over the years and the tree is quite unruly now.
Time for some pruning to allow for some fresh new growth :ok:

Mister T

My interests have expanded but don't think I've completely left anything behind. My focus changes though.

I only started collecting about 4 years ago with gold sovereigns and then  found shillings and then it was predecimal in general.I did have a fixation with 1915 at one stage and chased high grade silver for that year .Have had a stint with decimal proof and mint sets but now really just look for a bargain when I have the funds. In my early collecting days I did a lot of selling to upgrade but these days I try to start with a high grade and am too attached to my good coins to contemplate selling so the last couple of years I've only been buying to hold

And a fine job you are doing.!!:sun_bespectacled:

still a newbie, been at it for 18 months.
started off with gold sovs and some pre decimal key dates in reasonable quality. so have been wavering within the one lane and now more into predecimal proofs, still love the look of copper in the hand.. aaahh the good old days at school when steel wool/brasso did the trick...
but do have 2 decimal coins - swan dollar, and by courtesy of trout a proof silver yr of peace quiz win ... these being my only deviation.. for now!!

For me its not so much changing lanes, more like pulling into a rest area, turning off the engine and taking a break (rest, revive, survive).  :lazy2: :haha:

I collect basically what I find interesting and can afford at the time. This includes decimal and predemical coins . However, I always seem to come back to decimal coin as I enjoy noodling and I can get them for face value if the 'finances' aren't to healthy!
