Whilst I haven't really thought too much about trading rules for members here it has come up.

this thread

Any opinions or thoughts about this from mods?

I would like to see some guidelines, minimum number of posts before a newbie can post in trade or sell forum.

I know it's not easy to do this, but they'd need to be posts that actually contribute to the forum, not just ones that say 'nice coin', or 'welcome so-and-so'. Mark's probably getting ready to tear his hair out at this stage.

Like Jim, I've been burned by one person on CCF (who is also here), but I have now heard from him, so maybe all is not lost. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt so far.

Minimum number of quality posts?  150?  Seems fair to me.
Not sure about banning people for a bad or unsuccessful  trade, not when Aust Post might be to blame.

I recently rec'd an empty envelope that should have had a 50c error coin in it, but one corner had been split and the coin removed.  I contacted the sender and another coin was sent, luckily for me he had another error coin the same, and he admitted that it was probably his fault for not putting the coin between some packaging.

Wait and see what Barry and Steve have to say.

Another way would be to conduct a poll so everyone can vote on it.

Thanks for your contribution Nancy.  I am not really interested in having a poll to decide on these matters.  I think the moderators can decide on this and just enforce the rules.

I think the 150 post limit is pretty high, perhaps 50 or so might be better.  I can setup the forum to automatically transition people to be able to sell if want.  Alternatively, I can do it manually after they request to be able to post in the for sale forum.  I don't want (and don't have the time) to be checking on the quality of their posts though.  Someone else will need to put their hand up to do that.

SO we'll have a sticky in the sell thread with the rules? (edit: Mark says there is one already!)

We should make some friendly buy and sell suggestions
eg.
Use of Registered/Signature post is usually worth paying extra

Australia Post offer a cash on delivery service. This is usually around a $20 cost but if you don't know the other party it's a small price to pay.

I agree with Nancy.....I also have had the empty envelope but could have been any of the post offices involved.

Have also had overseas mail empty.

I think a minimum of 50 posts is enough but again could be to high for some members.  Maybe 20 or 25 should be enough.

We do not want this "open" forum to have too many rules and regulations otherwise we are no longer an "open" forum.

Should there be complaints about a member then admin and moderators can decide what is to be done.

OK, here's a draft of a set of rules.  If you have any suggestions as to how these can be changed, slimmed down, or added to please let me know within the next 24 hours.  I'll post them as law this time tomorrow night if I haven't heard differently from any of you.  I'd like to bring this process to a close.

50 post minimum to post in the For Sale forum
Approval to post in the For Sale forum subject to moderator decision if 50 posts have not be worthwhile
One active thread per user only
Prefix all threads with FOR SALE, WANTED TO BUY, FOR TRADE, WANTED TO TRADE, FOR AUCTION (added at PPH suggestion)
When a thread is closed the thread title prefix must be changed to CLOSED
Moderators move CLOSED threads to a new closed for sale thread forum (which I'll need to create)

All good for me.

I haven't had much to say on the topic because I don't get involved much with the trading side of the forum, either here or on CCF.

I will add this. You've all no doubt seen the lengthy list of trading rules over on CCF. Back when I joined CCF in 2006, their rules were as simple as ours are now. Each and every one of those rules added since then had to be put in place because some weasel acted unscrupulously and then said, "Well, there wasn't any rule against me doing that".

Once you start granting extra rights and privileges to to people with X number of posts, you will get weasels trying to pad their post-count, just to get those privileges. And the mods will have to act as cops, deleting posts and/or editing post-counts.

Something to consider here: some people might want to post both a "FOR SALE" thread and a "WANT TO BUY" thread at the same time; these rules as they stand seem to preclude that.

Hi SAP,

I am not that interested in making things too complicated and I've included a condition that mods can nuke the permission to post in the trading forums at their discretion.

I've already included the idea that a person can have one thread of each TYPE rather than one in total.  Rules are here:

Thanks for the feedback.

I've just edited a new members first post linking to their own eBay auction. I think we need to add this behaviour to our rules list. 50 post minimum.

The forum trading rules are now in force.  I've added another requirement, as well as needing 50 posts members must have been registered at least 14 days.  Members will be automatically given permissions to post in the for sale forum once these requirements are met.

A new archived for sale thread forum has been created.  I'd appreciate it if any moderators could periodically scan the live for sale thread forum and move any closed / sold threads into the archived forum.  I'd also appreciate it if you could monitor the for sale forum to ensure people are prefixing their threads correctly and that they only have one active thread of each type in the forum.
