I asked a few different sellers on eBay (from the US) if their 1961 Malaya and British North Borneo coins had the security edge. I came up with 2 no's and one "I've sold the coin so I don't know" -but he didn't remove it form eBay!

I checked that stuff out before and they only did the security edge for three years and they didn't match 1964

I still think that the security line down the middle is the final part of the minting process, but I have no idea of a coin the has interrupted reeding, maybe this is mint sport.

Any answers yet? If you send it to PCGS will they do the hard work for you?

purplepennyhunter

Still up in the air, I have no closure, I need closure. If we senti t to PCGS they'd probably just slab it as an error with security edge. Markn says they might not even notice it was different!!!!!!!! (If it were sent on a normal submission).

Error submissions are very expensive.

Is there the possibility that its not a coin planchet but a token or something similar? In that case i think it might be a needle in a haystack.

Mister T

Maybe.  Might not be likely if it was struck at the Royal Mint though as I get the impression it was busy enough making real money for a lot of countries at that point in time.

Mark and I got ourselves a new book "A  numismatic history of the Birmingham Mint" (Heaton) and it says it did not strike the Zambian coins in 1964.

We still have no candiate coins/countries for the correct weight with security edge :dead_horse:
