After visiting the mint pop-up shop today, I realised that the Borobi coins actually look much better in real life than on the mint's website. Most of the people who went through while I was there couldn't stop exclaiming just how cute the little koala was, and they seemed to be selling out like hot cakes. Conversely, the Bananas in Pyjamas coins looked worse than in the pictures, mostly because you needed a microscope in order to see them.

Nevertheless, I'm now the proud owner of one Bananas in Pyjamas set, one Borobi coin and one Trans-Atlantic Railway coin with a counterstamp. Thus, I now have my first coloured 5c coin, my first coloured 20c coin, my first coloured $1 coin and my first 2018 coin. :yahoo: I just hope this sudden spending spree doesn't come back to bite me later. :laugh2:

I asked them if I could have one of the Trans Australia $1 coins without the counterstamp on it.

They said NO. Bugger.

That is an interesting question. And a more interesting response
There\'s no such thing as too much Borobi!

I asked them that same question last year, when they went out to Toowoomba with the 2016 ANZAC dollars. They said NO, even though they were going to release many of them into circulation later that year. If I couldn't get a 2016 ANZAC dollar from them without a counterstamp, what hope has anyone got of doing that with the Trans-Australian Railway coin? I can understand their desire not to give away "error" coins, but refusing to give away unmarked ANZAC coins was clearly way over-the-top. :(

Where did they put the counterstamp on your coin? The one on mine is much further to the left and a little further down than the one in the diagram, so that it's underneath the "IA" in "Australia", and the Tropic of Capricorn runs through the baseline of the "Y" in "Centenary". Are they all like this, or does the counterstamp move around, depending on the whims of the staff? :dontknow:

It'd be up to the operator and the rotation of the coin when they put it in, wouldn't it?

The privy mark is so much nicer/neater/better positioned than the counter stamp

I believe it moves - you can tell whether your B counter-stamp Terra Australis $1 was struck at the ANDA show or the Ekka but the position of the counter-stamp I think.
