Why not put "customised incontinence pads"? No one will steal that.

In the end I guess it's down to the wording.   Just have to find something instead of Coins

I knew one coin dealer that used to put "machined metal discs" on the form. They even got themselves a second registered company name that sounded like a car parts company, to use it with. The theory was, (a) it was technically true, (b) an x-ray would reveal that the contents were, in fact, carefully packaged machined metal discs, and (c) no-one would want to steal random small car parts.

Of course, if they actually lost something, they couldn't complain about it to Aust Post.

The sad and simple fact is, Australia Post's regulations do not take into account the concept of collectable money. The regs are black and white, no exceptions. If you want no-questions-asked delivery, use a courier service.

I find it a joke that the mint and auspost can send coins but say you can't, well you can but if anything happens it's tough titties.

Yes, but most sellers on fleabay only send things via the post, so it isn't a matter of what we want but what the seller offers. Is it also a sign that the post office does not trust its employees to not steal cash? As for how unreliable the post office is their insurance rates of $2.50 per $100 implies that they think 1 in 40 items will be lost/stolen.

They would have 'crunched' the figures -it is not "think"; they know.
And what have they done about it? I have no idea but suspect not much at all. Far easier just to levy the victims with a higher premium.
Edit, on further reflection.
Probably only about one in 50 items on average -they have to take their cut too!
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

I have sent hundreds of items via Aus Post and have yet to have a parcel that has tracking on it go astray.
I have had problems with delays but I have never had anything stolen or lost in the mail.
The only time I have had any items disappear or apparently were not delivered was when I have sent eBay items without tracking, Every other package I have sent to people without tracking has arrived without any problems.

I have always used "Hobby Supplies" on the declaration.
Once, one of the staff at the post office said it needed to
be more specific, so I added "Metal discs". Otherwise
never had a problem. :)

I always put 'Numismatic Supplies'. What percentage of people know what 'Numismatic' means.....50%, if that?
