Quote from: 'trout' pid='111186' dateline='1504145692'I am not sure what process was involved in minting the 2004 holographic $1 coin But I am certain that this coin is responsible for the detrition of the coins in the 2004 proof sets.

We need numbers 5. 12. 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42.
They seem to be scarcest of the lot.

Quote from: 'purplepennyhunter' pid='87148' dateline='1460606071'How many rings does your coin album have?
We (as The Purple Penny) would like to do a quick survey about how you store your coins. What we want to know is how many rings does your coin album or folder have? Generally album pages come with a universal fit for 2, 3, or 4 ring binder types. But what do you use or what do you think is best?
Quote from: 'Goldseeker' pid='83090' dateline='1450855911'I sent thee RAM an email re the 2004 $1 discolouration of the Obverse and this is the reply I have just received:
Good afternoon Mr Mansfield,
Apologies for the delay in reply to your email from 21st December 2015.
I have read your email and appreciate your position. If possible can I ask that you supply a photo of the discoloured coins? This will help us determine the best course of action and possible solution for your disappointment.
Kind regards,
I have responded with four full face scans of the sets as well as a closeup of each of the four dollar coins Obverses.
I will post any further responses I get from the RAM.
I have informed the RAM that I know of other collectors with the same problem. So maybe an email to the RAM may just get us all a good result.

Quote from: 'Unicorn' pid='79400' dateline='1442307776'My bad eye (cataract one) seemed to have a blurred blackish intrusion in my usual blur over the weekend so I was a bit worried about a detached retina in that one now, so I went to the eye doc yesterday. He was on hols, but the locum was a lady who also works for my eye specialist. She freaked out when she saw my cataract as it's so, how would you say ...... large. The fact that it was also white instead of the standard yellow also had her shocked. (She hadn't seen a white one since she left South Africa some time back). Anyhow she couldn't see past the cataract, so, she felt it best for me to see my specialist. She got me in pronto at 3:30 this arvo. My specialist took about 1 minute to confirm that yes it's detached ....... so I'm off to Sydney Eye Hospital ...... pronto. I'm apparently getting operated on tomorrow afternoon so I have to get there early tomorrow morning. Fortunately the train from Taree will get me there around 7:00am.
So you will have the pleasure of my absence for a few days .... egad people will be able to post stuff without my rot.

It's frustrating when volume upon volume of written explaining text is sadly accompanied by too few visuals. One good picture is worth a thousand words. Good stuff.
Thanks for all the kind comments.
I was just thinking that maybe I should actually put a red circle around the "variety" to highlight it a wee bit mare and place a clean coin alongside with the same area highlighted.
Blow it, I just might go ahead and do a couple as an example.
It is ok for someone who has been in the game for a while but what about a total newbie who hasn't the faintest idea of we talk about.
Maybe I shall start a "Error Description Topic" for the newbies.
Quote from: 'Goldseeker' pid='65122' dateline='1420858091'I have just examined a sample of the 300 odd 2001 COF Upsets I still have on hand and can state that ALL of those looked at show the "I" and "R" are separated but the "R" and "B" are joined.
Where some of the coins do have the "I" and "R" joined, I believe that this is through wear and tear and not a mint variety.
I have stated elsewhere that after looking at close to 500 of these error coins, that only one set of dies have been used and that I would say all these error coins came from the same press.
This can be qualified by the alignment of the reeding to the letters "IO" in the word "Federation". The alignment is the same on all my rotations of the COF coin.
