Just noticed the ad on Gumtree - and I think no one in here mentioned this get-together as yet

Do you have any information/history on this one ?

Only the links posted yesterday.  Not sure what to do with it yet.

OK new attempt :) hope it's better now
So the ones below are NZ Royal Visit medal and a NZ 1862 Dunedin Penny token.

[attachment=3498]
Then three UK pennies, each one with a different monarch.
[attachment=3499]
[attachment=3500]

Then Fiji coins - interestingly all their pennies I've seen before were silvery, but this one is yellowish which feels unusual.

Have also some half crowns but not sure if worth posting.

Some of the members here are pretty clued up on photography and can help you with the settings :good:

Canon IXUS 175 or similar (don't remember 100% but pics of it look correct)
I've googled some tips, will try new approaches today.

Quote from: 'trout' pid='88530' dateline='1463011497'Some interesting coins there seacat, Can you take images of individual coins as it is difficult to see them on those pic's .

Will try but I can't figure out how to shoot them best, tried macro, flash, and daylight, result is invariably pitiful.
Either there's a trick I'm missing, or just my hands grow from the wrong spot.

OK some of my last catch.
This seems like not big deal, but pay attention to:
(a) the one in top right corner - it's an NZ Royal Visit medal like this (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1953-1954-ROYAL-VISIT-NEW-ZEALAND-MEDAL-320969R651-/191865363490?hash=item2cac111c22:g:fG4AAOSwbdpWWn4b),
and
(b) the almost black one in the centre - this is a NZ 1862 Dunedin Penny token (http://www.abccoinsandtokens.com/NewZealand.KM.Tn.017.002.html or http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Zealand-1862-Penny-Token-coin-E-De-Carle-Dunedin-Very-Fine-nice-/140963088339?hash=item20d20e07d3:g:CJEAAOxyshFReczF)

Quote from: 'r9453' pid='88484' dateline='1462927106'Clearly, you can't do that. Maybe there is another way. Off the top of my head I'm not even sure what is you're looking for. I assume you've tried noodling, coin dealers etc. The ANDA show in Brisbane is coming up. Maybe you can continue to contribute to the forum after you return home and work something out then.
No need to apologise, its all  :good:
Thanks :) It's not actually me, it's the other guy who's the guest. I'm local all right :)

Quote from: 'trout' pid='88460' dateline='1462857672'Please read this thread :ok:

https://www.australian-coins.net/showthread.php?tid=23

I know, thank you.

But tell me please, how a newbie collector - who is also only temporarily in Australia - is meant to write 50 meaningful posts in a short timeframe, without it being stupid questions annoying to knowledgeable people?

I was not going to post any offers in that section, or any other sections, but in this particular case, someone just needs help and was asking whether there were people in Brisbane who he can get in touch with...

Sorry if this caused inconvenience.

Quote from: 'DarkDaiver' pid='88318' dateline='1462498930'Thank you! I will. Actually there are few other coins I didn't find. Some of the Century of Federation and colored 2 dollars. How possible is it to find someone in Brisbane to change the coins? preferably for the foreign ones...

I can help you mate :) I've had a big bunch of coins from someone the other day, happy to share. Sent you a PM.

Thanks for the welcome Nevol! :)

Quote from: 'trout' pid='88321' dateline='1462499776'I wonder if they are going to make it to WA as Geraldton is one of the Major regional towns in this State and maybe it will get a "Guernsey" :angel:
I have a feeling I know you ;)

One thing I wonder about. Do you good people always wait for an official event to visit, or there could be some sort of "social gathering" somewhere in the park, to just chat about stuff, brag the 'recent catch' and possibly exchange things?

Thanks for the welcome :)

Yes I tried pennies. You've got to be very careful with them to avoid discoloration. I liked the result in some cases, though at times there is inner dirt or defects in the coin that you don't see before the darkness is gone :))

One coin I was especially excited about, was a UK one - with a ship on it - it acquired a beautiful colour, I don't know how to explain, slightly purple, possibly it had a fuel bath at some stage.

One firm rule with vinegar, should you want to try that, is always separate the coins by their metal type prior to soaking. Well, that is, if keeping the natural colour is desired. :)

Magnificent!
Probably an ex Hong Kong'er suffered from nostalgia.

They will end up as beads and bracelets ;) Worth 20 times their face value.

I usually make them soak in white vinegar for 3-5 minutes + gentle soda bath, with fingers. This way there's no scratching and the result is stunning, for all coin types, especially silverish.
Naturally not doing that for all coins, only those that are hopeless otherwise... Discovered a couple of real gems this way, while before the clean-up they were only fit for trash bin.
