Hi,

I endeavour to keep my collection as a basic type-set of Australian coins, but it's quite frustrating given the rate at which the mints produce commemorative coins. I am only interested in coins released into circulation - so I don't bother with most of these (e.g. the many Anzac variants, the motorsport coins, the endless alphabet releases), but every time a new coin is announced - e.g. the Indigenous Languages 50c or the Repatriation $2, I need to try and find out if they are going to be released or not.

Can anyone point me to a reference website or similar that makes it easy to know if it's a circulation coin or not?

Thanks

Hi,

I usually trawl Ebay to see if i can find any bargains but have found it getting more pricey of late, apart from that I go to the local estate auctions to see if there are any collections going and have been to the Noble auctions once which seemed like a lot of good deals went under the hammer but need to do a bit more research there.

Are there any other ideas for picking up reasonable priced coins for my collection?

Or is it just a matter of looking and being in the right place at the right time?

Hi

I have been collecting for a while and would like to look at slabbing some of my collection. i would also be looking to buy coins with the aim of slabbing them. I haven't done this before any advice or help would be appreciated.

As a start :

Who is recommended to have the coins graded and slabbed?
How much does it cost?

What sort of coins should I target - pre-decimal or decimal? or is this irrelevant?

I have some mint Australian pennies i was looking to start with - i'll dig them out and post them here for comments as a start.

any other comments/tips/hints appreciated

Cheers

Hi, first post.. long time reader with a question.

Does anyone have any info on the 1966 Round 50c Coin

Product code-12U46AAA A not longer available Round 1966 50c Showing 1966 as the date on the coin.
Product code-16Y89CAA Currently available 50th anniversary packaging - doesn't show date of the specific included coin.

Is it an original 1966 cleaned up and repackaged, or a coin minted this year? Or just a fresh angle for the presentation card?

Below is quoted from the perth mints description of the coin 50th anniversary packaged coil.

Quote:Buy the 1966 Round 50c Coin at The Perth Mint, featuring:

Unique Round Shape
80% Silver
Single Year Issue
Australian Legal Tender
[undefined=undefined]Uncirculated Quality[/undefined]
Presentation Card

Product Information

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1966 50 cent coin, this pack is a historic keepsake.

Australia’s first 50 cent coin was released in 1966 when decimal currency was introduced to Australia. The original 50 cent coin was round with a design by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG that featured a kangaroo and an emu facing each other with the Australian Coat of Arms between them.

The coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The original 50 cent coin was, and remains today, the largest and heaviest Australian decimal coin.

Presentation Card

Each coin is housed in a special 50th anniversary presentation card.

Cheers,
