2013 Black Caviar 1 oz Silver Proof 1 Dollar - purplepennyhunter - 23-05-2013

Issued for $120 this 1oz fine silver proof coin is sold out at the Royal Australian Mint but soon to be issued in a 2-coin set. Image courtesy of the RAM the reverse is by coin designer Tony Dean.

Just 2,500 have been issued as a single coin of a 5,000 mintage. At 40 millimetres in diameter this 1 dollar coin is larger than the standard size.

He is the nicest guy. His office was not 50m from where I worked for years and I'd never known. We went and saw him in 2009 and I believe he had a fulfilling job working with kids aside from his arty projects. He'd done a stint at the RAM in 2006 (Lifesaver coins 2007) and I'm guessing now he's done some more work for them as the talented Wojciech Pietranik retires off into his own sunset!
