:laugh2: I'm pretty used to it now Trout .... one step forward two steps back .... I'm glad his 4WD is high as the wagon tow bar would have wiped him out too otherwise! (I'd actually just spent a week or so removing a some rust around the tailgate & repainted the whole inner gate and retrimmed it).

Here she be now ....

What a bugger of a thing to happen.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

:laugh2: But wait Jeff, there's more .........

I've had it up on Australian Muscle Car Sales for quite a while now (a couple of years). I'm half headed, sell, don't sell. So it doesn't matter too much either way. If I get what I want for it, I'll sell (much like my coins). If I don't then I won't, as I love it.

Anyhow ....... here's me Friday morning searching the web looking at replacement tailgates on Gumtree and the phone rings ....... sure enough Mike Selby from Australian Muscle Car Sales ..... he has a very interested buyer ..... I explained the incredible timing of his call and sent the potential buyer the list of fix-its and some current pics but he was no mechanic nor painter so he's passed. (Haven't had an interested party for a few years now).

Here's a pic from a different angle .... (new tail light is ordered. I'm now trying to work out if I can get a replacement reversing light / number plate section before I try and get a whole gate. I'll have to deskin it and beat the living @$#@$ out of it, but I might get it straight ...... enough).

Will you have to get the parts from Rare Spares or are they still available from Ford or the wreckers , as it doesn't look like that dent  will be an easy fix.
Very Lucky that the rear 1/4 panel survived the impact though :good:

In the yard, he always parks his ute in neutral with the handbrake on. I'd used it during the day to get a load of wood and had it in first. He was doing some work on his exhaust in the dark and reached in and turned the key not realising it was in gear. The thing started and powered straight into the wagon pushing it about 6 feet (the wagon was in park).

So I'm feeling a bit to blame.

:dodgy: it's up to the driver to check these things..not your fault
Make him pay :laugh2:

There's quite a few tailgates scattered in sheds across the country so at this stage I'm just going to hunt down the centre section which seems much harder to come by in good nick.

Too right Trout, that was my first concern. The pic below shows the only quarter panel damage, the yellow circled section. (Note the red circled section is meant to be like that).

ausjack

If you get a new tailgate remember to take everything you can off the old one..always good to have spares. Did it bent the towbar as well?

That should tap out pretty easy Mate :good:
I would be in tears if that happened to my Disco :cray:

:laugh2: AJ, me throw anything away? ...... Surely you jest!!! I did forget to show you "inside" my sheds when you were here. (and stop calling me Shirley).

tbth I'm pretty sure the bar was always on that silly angle.

It works fine as it pulled that %#^%$@$ 4WD half way back from Singleton on a car trailer when my son bought it. Nothing like totally collapsing a front wheel bearing at 110 kph after you've just bought it. No play, no noise, then 100% collapse. (Give me a break).

jesus
put the thing in gear and the handbrake on
unless it's an auto then put it in park & handbrake on

bloody lucky someone didn't get killed

worked in hospitals for over 20 years - it happens

Unicorn

Too true RG.

The young fella works in a workshop with 7 hoists. All vehicles are in neutral with the handbrake on as you can't really go climbing up to get in them to spin them over while you're working on them. Just habit I guess. Whereas my habit here for a car parked on a flat is that it's in gear until I get in it to start it. On a hill it's in gear with the handbrake on until I get in it to start it.

robbiegal

no worries
just me, the old thought police pain in the arse member

it made me think of that young actor in the USA who got crushed by his jeep ? nisson SVU,  thingee,  last week as the electronics apparently are faulty and he thought the car was on handbrake whereas it wasn't engaged ( a lever of sorts not a full handbrake like most cars)

unnecessary tragedy

I was almost run over when I was kid by a jeep not in gear , the owners kids pulled the handbrake off and next minute I had a SILENT jeep coming straight for me - they were a deaf and dumb family so the kids all jumped out of the car but couldn't call out to me to warn me - they were frightened and ran away as well

I ran out of the way - it careered past where i was, over the footpath and sailed onto and through the roof of the neighbours house (steep street in brissy - Highgate hill) fortunately they were in an adjoining room
had to get a big crane to get the car off the roof of the house

we were all lucky

Unicorn

Nah, all good RG, have never thought of you as that.

Do you remember the saying from the movie (I think it was ... "Smiley"). The gun is always loaded and the horse always kicks.

robbiegal

yeah true
