Quote from: 'Nevol' pid='11419' dateline='1365146234'Here are some shots of one of my 10c Die clashes. I have 3 like this, 1 x 2001 and 2 x 2005. Others years with much less clash to be seen are 2003, 2006, and 2008.

Rev clashes can be found, but it's nowhere near as good as the obverse ones.  Rev years are I've found are 1988, 2000, 01, 03, 04,  05, 06, 07, 08.

Excellent die clash Nancy,if i had 2 good arms i'd be inspired to do some noodling.  :wavemulticolor:

Here are some images of 10c Rev Die clashes. They're a bit harder to spot as the rev is so 'busy'.

This is the partial outline of HM’s forehead and nose to the right of the 1, 2nd image is a normal 2006 coin, same area
10c 2005 Rev D.Clash V 2006 Normal v1

Top pic shows tiny bits of HM’s hair between all the barbs of the feathers, bottom pic is a normal 2012 coin, same area
10c 2005 Rev D.Clash V 2012 Normal Duo v1.jpg

This is the partial outline of HM’s chin and neck going into the Lyrebirds beak, 2nd image is a normal 2012 coin, same area
10c 2005 D.Clash V 2012 Normal Duo v4

This shows a partial outline of the back of HM’s head in the large curved feather, 2nd image is a normal 2012 coin, same area
10c 2005 Rev D.Clash V 2012 Normal v5.jpg

This is another view of the top of the 0, plus the area to the right that shows bits of HM”s Hair between the barbs of the feathers.

Excellent posts!
I have never looked for the feather cuds before, and found my first one last night!

Nevol

Well done!  Some are fairly common, some are hard to find, but now that you've found your first one, others will follow for sure. :winkextra:

Please tell me how the heck you can spot so smaller details that is different from the norm.   Have you got Maganifaction Eyes or something?

Regardless, all nice finds.

I can only find the larger type errors.

I shall post some pictures of some of my errors a little later.

Would love to see your ones Goldy.
I am sure they will be worth looking at!

All my noodling is done with a 5x Loupe that has a 26mm lens and I can see the entire side of any coin, even a Crown. I do my noodling sitting in my favourite armchair with a soft light coming from behind my left shoulder.

I have paid up to $9 each for some of my Loupes, of which I have about 15, but I only ever use the 26mm ones, and would not use anything else. It has two 5x lenses, but I only ever use one. A few years ago, these cost $2.95 at either Dollars & Sense or Dollar Dazzlers, but they might cost a bit more now.

The hinge tends to become very loose so I just wrap an elasticed hair band around it as many time as it will go.  Rubber bands will serve the same purpose, but they deteriorate and end up sticky.

We use magnification, Goldy. I have a x10 loupe which is excellent, even with my degraded eyes.

Apologies for not posting those cud pics yet, I've been a bit AWOL, and I'll try and do it tomorrow. Meanwhile, I found a very nice 1999 tail cud which looks like it was struck through the cud. The bottom half has been flattened, though oddly the detail of the feather rib is visible. Almost as if the cud broke off to reveal the intact coin beneath, though that is of course impossible.

Y'know Nevol, I've never ever been able to get the hang of that style of loupe. No idea why, I just seem incapable of operating them. The type I use has the clear bottom half, and is used for looking at slides on a light table.

Fulvio, Does it look like this one where it seems the whole ‘fat’ cud was there initially, but the bottom bit came away and left just the outline?

My theory of this is that there are two sections of the ‘Fat’ cud that  melded together over time and that this is a precursor to the melding.

Surely a quick look at the above coin would reveal that cud without any magnification at all?

Yes that one would be hard to miss, but  I can't even make out the dates on the smaller coins without magnification, so I'd be flat out seeing most cuds, die cracks, partial collars, die clashes etc etc. :winkextra:

Here, finally, is a (crappy) pic:

Three 1999's, the middle one being the one with the break or strikethrough, then the 2008 and 2012. Sorry for the focus on the 2012 closeup... light was terrible, and I was having trouble focussing.

If that IS a piece of the cud broken off, I'd like to know how its possible to have detail underneath it. It just doesn't look right to me. Perhaps I need to study the mechanics of cud formation in greater detail?

Oh, and Goldy, while you can see these cuds unmagnified (its about equivalent to looking at the above image I guess), can you see all eight cuds, the doubling on two of the 1999's, the spike in the middle of the flat part of the tail on the top 1999, or the strikethrough to the right of the 2012 cud? I certainly can't without magnification. :)

Maybe I should put more effort into looking for these errors as all I really do is lay about 20 coins at a time in front of me on the desk, heads side first, browse thoroughly over them without any magnification, once dates and errors have been checked I flip the coins over and do the same but with a little more attention to detail as there is more to look for on the reverse I reckon. When all coins are back in the bags I than get out the magnifier and squiz at what I think I have found.

So pretty much I find all my errors with the NEKED eye unless I really need to look at a coin during search. It doesn't really strain my eyes at all not using the magnifier I guess I just have good scanners  lol..

What kind of camera do you use Nevol? Just asking because I was looking at buying the same kind of loupe as the one you pictured but I just didn't think it would do the job but looking at yourr photos I guess I am wrong:dodgy:, they seem to go alright by the pics.
