Thanks Auto!
Guys, more please!
Fred.

WavyTwenty

You all wish that you had one of me?

Hahahaha

autocoupler

Come on Wavy, you must have plenty.  :)
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

WavyTwenty

I have one real one and one forgery autocoupler - sheesh they are rather expensive.

When I started they were about the most expensive decimal coin that you could buy, back in 2006. Today many have surpassed it ....

The real one is MS64+

Love to see that. And probably the forgery too.

WavyTwenty

gweidion, your wish, my command, and all that jazz.

It came from a dealer made set in Brisbane. Neither the dealer or buyer knew what it was until it was discovered in the early 2000's and then sold on to another dealer who I bought it off.

Bonus for me is that I paid for the 20 cents and got a full set of 1966 coins! Yay for me.

Very nice Wavy. I also do not have one.

Yes, the cost is why i am unwilling to buy 10 or so rough examples to explore the die type!
That's 5 grand or so off my pension!
I'm really hoping for more JPGs of the reverse of your coin please, please.
Any circulated condition is ok.
If sized at about 10meg file size i can then blow the center up and get a good look at the die surface away from circulation wear.
So far I can see coins with a matt surface to the die table and one with heavy straight polish marks.
That's repairs being done to a die or punch.

Cheers, Fred.

That's one very nice wavy, Wavy :)

Oooh that's a nice one. I've seen ones that I struggle to call wavy. Not that one though.
A thing of beauty.

Sooo, how about the forgery?

WavyTwenty

Yes, I know - forgeries are illegal.

From what I can tell they took a real 1966 20 cent piece and butchered it. So its base is real.

I paid $26 for it back in 2007, I think from eBay.

gweidion

Something about it definitely looks off.
If you weren't on the ball you could easily be fooled.
Blew the picture up to large to see how wrong it is.

Hi Wavy, oh dear that does not look very typical of the dozens of images i have viewed so far.

I would love to see a sharp JPG shot of the reverse alone if that is possible?
Out of the plastic if possible.
Emailed to my address.
If suitable, and only with your permission of course, i may include it in an article as a typical questionable example.

Cheers, Fred.

Hi Fred,

Are you meaning the natural Wavy?

That photo was taken by PCGS when they were giving it a grade. And because it's slabbed I'm not able to take it out as you have asked for :-(

But, most unfortunately, the coin is located in another state from where I currently live.

Have you tried looking at the PCGS examples?

Hi Wavey, i meant the forgery!
I'll do a paragraph on faked waveys and your coin  will make a great model.

Yes, ive downloaded the PCGS images and lots from auction houses.
It is becoming clear that several coining dies are involved and repairs were done most likely to a incuse punch trying to get back to 'standard'.
Unfortunately most images are about 1/10 the density required to blow the area up around the '2' and properly look at the metal preparation.
However slowly getting there!

Fred.
