THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO AUSTRALIAN DECIMAL SILVER COINS 2025
2ND EDITION
BY VICTOR CRUISE
PDF EBOOK CATALOGUE

Includes Silver Sets, Precious Metal Sets, Popular Silver Medallions, PNC's with Silver Coins

Fully Illustrated with Values for all Silver Listings
Over 3,750 Silver Items Listed

Compiled predominately for the silver coin collector this catalogue is a culmination of many years of research and investigation. It arose from a need to fully catalogue legal tender silver coins from both the Perth Mint and the Royal Australian Mint. The catalogue not only lists coins minted by these mints but includes an image of every coin. As a matter of completeness popular non-legal tender coins and medallions that have been made in silver are also included - though the catalogue is not extensive in this area it serves as a good guide for most common medallions for sale on the internet. Precious metal and standard metal sets that incorporated a silver coin are also included as well as P.N.C's with a silver coin. Readers will find this catalogue an invaluable resource for their silver coin collecting needs

Nice work putting this together. Do you have something similar for gold coins, or other countries? Canada? US?
Pre-decimal?
I can't imagine the hours put in to do this.

Hi gweidon
Thank you for your kind words
In response to your questions in turn:

Do you have something similar for gold coins?
Not at the moment but if there is demand for it I can incorporate in the future, not just gold but also platinum + palladium. There is another reason for this - gold/platinum/palladium coins are not traded online at a retail level at an extent where the sales can be quantified beyond their bullion value. You may see one gold/platinum/palladium coin sold for every 100 silver coins due to their value compared to silver coins which puts them out of reach for most collectors. Therefore it becomes much harder to establish a true value on these coins and ultimately comes down to a subjective opinion. Having said that I am looking at the feasibility doing a catalogue only version for gold/platinum/palladium with bullion values only which at least allows the collector to known what coins were minted, what they look like and what their relevant specifications are.

or other countries? Canada? US?
Only Australian coins at the moment due to the amount of time needed just to keep up with Perth Mint & Royal Australian Mint releases

Pre-decimal?
Only Decimal coins at the moment not only for the same reason as above but also it is harder to establish condition of coin from just a couple of images. Having said that I am looking at the feasibility doing a catalogue for pre-decimal Australian coins based on PCGS/NGC graded coins

You are correct on the amount of hours needed - it does take a few hours a day to keep my system up to date. It is enjoyable though to see how coins are faring on the retail market

I am not a decimal or a gold coin person, but I am very impressed with what is being achieved! Well done and keep up the good work .. this is the type of publication we need to keep the hobby going. Digital is the way to go. If you end up doing a pre decimal version, I will be very interested! All the best @mrcruise.
Collecting coins is not about having the best, but loving what you have ...

Thank you for your kind words ausproofs
I will definitely announce a pre-decimal version if it happens in the future

Fantastic effort on your behalf - just downloaded and very impressed on the way you have set out the first section with the guides.     As a specialist collector of silver and gold 50 cent coins, I was able to verify some of the values that you have placed on the coins sales.     Particular interest in the 2008 50 cent silver mouse proof with no sales.    As the lowest mintage 50 cent coin from Canberra or Perth that has been released,  your (blue) estimate of $500 was interesting, given that the majority of these coins went overseas, especially to Germany.    I highly recommend this publication to other collectors.  Cheers Peter (notcb)

Hi notcb
Thank you for your kind words and your support
In response to your comment on the 2008 50 cent Silver Mouse Proof (Series 1) coin it is difficult to put a price on a coin that has no sales, hence the next step is to use proxies, which in this case were the 2008 50 cent Silver Ox Proof (Series 1) coin and the 2008 50 cent Silver Tiger Proof (Series 1) coin. Since the 2008 50 cent Silver Tiger Proof (Series 1) coin had the only sale in 2024 this was used as a base with a premium added since less of the Mouse Proofs were minted.
Personally i believe the above-mentioned 3 silver proof coins are grossly overlooked by most collectors - they are actually rare gems - if you own one you have done well and I can only see their prices increasing in the future as they become more appreciated by collectors, especially when they see the gap in their collections.
Thanks
