Perth GV1 pennies.

I have some Perth GV1 pennies. 1941kg,41y that have a half circle wave (ghosting)?? above the roo. Does anyone know what has caused this??.

IIRC There was a recent article in one of the publications which explained it.
Will post the link if I can find it.
Basically its die deterioration.

Hi all, yes it's a die and pressure thing resulting from using the dies until they failed.
The 'ghosting is mainly from die clash damage.
I did an article on that subject about 20 years ago in the ACR coin magazine.
My spreadsheet tells me it was December 2005!
I don't have that mag but can email you a PDF copy of the article.
