So I see RAM has decided to join the speculators and get massive profits at the collector's expense.
Recommended Retail for this 14 coin set is $235. Over $16.75 each.

The 30th Anniversary set for 12 coins was... $75. $6.25 each.

Why not rip off the collectors because the speculators are. If you can't beat them, join them.

Over the last 2 years, I have found it increasingly difficult to purchase official releases - just today, I spent 40 minutes of my life to try and secure 1 copy of this release through RAM and 3rd party channels (which by it's inflated purchase price I had hoped had scared off a number of the usual suspects), just to have found I had wasted my time - I actually have a job and a life.

When what was once a hobby has become a chore and no longer can be enjoyed, due to the scalpers, bots, and money-grubbers, I have decided to exit and sell the "trinkets".

I started collecting the annual sets in 2009, and through the coin community at that time was made aware of the initial coloured $2 coins available through the RSL, got all the initial C mintmark $2 coins from 2012 onwards. The community at that time was a big help and I think it has been lost due to the splintering of discussion, and this forums insistence on restricting public access (however I understand some of the history).

Only bullion for me now...

from RAM website:
*Sales have stopped*
Sales of the 35th Anniversary of the Two Dollar Coin Uncirculated Fourteen-Coin Collection have now concluded. They will no longer be available for purchase from the Royal Australian Mint onsite coin shop and call centre.
Based on customer feedback received on-site today, and the above average weather forecast  for the next few days, we have decided to move sales online.
The remaining stock of this product will be sold through a ballot system. The Mint will be partnering with EQL, an online commerce platform that helps manage the launch of exclusive products. We have been working with EQL for many months now to meet our need for a better, fairer system to make our products available to the Australian community.  We have been investigating options to improve the way we release coins and fairly distribute them to passionate collectors Australia-wide.
The implementation of EQL will mitigate ongoing problems such as website crashing, slow loading times, competing with bots and guarantees secure personal and payment details for customers. Our aim is to ensure the coin release ballot solution gives all Australians equal opportunity to access our highly sought after collectible coins.  The Mint acknowledges that 2023 has been a challenge for many collectors and we thank you for your continued support and patience.  We are very excited about deploying the EQL solution and we look forward to sharing a new era of fair purchasing with all Australians.
We hoped to present EQL earlier, however this is a significant change that needed to be managed diligently to ensure it provides the benefits we anticipate as well as complying with legislative requirements. This has taken some time, however we want to get it right and we believe that the outcome will be worth the wait.
We are very close to finalising our agreement with EQL, and we will advise you as soon as we confirm time and date for the ballot.
For more information on EQL, please visit: EQL | Better Product Launches for In-Demand Commerce

After reading thru all the conditions I don't think I would be giving my credit card details and also paying a fee of over 2% on top of the release price for a particular coin release.
Also the scoring system if you don't win then you get an extra point for the next ballot.
It all seems a bit dodgy to say the least.

They are speaking like they just split the atom.

Meanwhile, yesterday I logged on to Wynyard Coins website, and when clicking the link to the set, it went to EQL, which I registered with, and later that day my phone vibrated. It was my bank informing me of a $235 transaction.

So yeah ... little ol' Wynyard Coins was able to deploy EQL without any fanfare.

The mint just keep looking like a joke with each passing month

I thought it was significantly more expensive than last time. I did not try to buy it anyway.

I don't really care for the commemorative Queen Elizabeth II obverse either - trying to jam too much onto the obverse, and the King Charles III one is available if they don't want to use the old one.

I also tried on Wynyard only to be told Nope. Glad to see someone got one but at the right rip off of $235 a set I am not sad at missing out. Of course they will be like the Planetary Set and overpriced to buggery on eBag.

gweidion

I see the remainder will be on RAM from the 17th and 18th by ballot. I wonder what will do to the eBag prices.

Our local post office still has a set in the display cabinet that no one has bought for over a week now.

Really $235 is too expensive for these coins. I'll have a go at the RAM ballot but not overly concerned if I miss out.

gweidion

Clearly didn't get enough takers now that they are using this EQL process to cut out many of the speculators.

You've won!
Hi Daniel,
Yes! We're so happy for you!
2023 $2 Fourteen-Coin Collection

Personally I think they are happy for the money, not me.

EDIT. About a week later and they are still selling on eBag for about $325 which surprises me they haven't come down more. $90 more than retail, less the $10 postage and eBag fees. Speculators aren't making too much out of this one.

Tanecoins

This speculative greed has killed off the $2 coloured coin fad, its wearing down, a lot less of them in 2025 than 2023 or 2024 and realistically Covid did a good job reducing them too.

Surely a $2 circulating coin that is not NCLT or made out of some precious metal, should sell for $2 or less than double it. This fad of putting privy marks on them and 1 coloured coin per 10 is just more gimmicks to milk the moolah out of people too.

Bubblegum coins strike again.

I agree, why not just mint them for every genuine person who wants one. Limit sales to 2 per customer, eliminate priority access for big timers and coin buying VIPs, limit numbers sold to dealers, ban pre sales and make everyone including the fee bayer scammers wait until release day, and interest groups and make a basic rule. Anyone who has the money to pay for a set and wants one - gets a set. So simple and so helpful, ballots, crashing computers, bots buying coins and scambay/feebay buyers getting them ahead of time should be outlawed.

In the case of dodgy mint empoyees smuggling or selling sets to scambay sellers ahead of time. Go through all employees and contractors and weed out who collect coins, or are closely linked to and know a coin collector/dealer/seller or trader and ensure all new hires are honest and have no interest in selling or jumping ahead on collectors pieces, or delpoy such workers to other jobs like minting common circulation coins or jobs that involve no interaction with any collectibles.

I miss the days when you could just buy little baggies of coins from the RAM and it just cost you the postage extra.
Steve

OFEC count = 258

gweidion

Or postage free when they would do "pop up" shops locally.

Triggersmob

Yes, the pop shops were good, but never local to me, so would have cost $10 for petrol and parking anyway.

Mister T

Yeah the pop up shops were great.
