Philippines Coinage under U.S. Sovereignty

The Philippines was ceded to the United States as part of the settlement between Spain and the United States at the end of the Spanish-American War in 1898. A self-governing commonwealth was established in 1935. The U.S. granted the Republic of The Philippines full independence on July 4, 1946.

During the United States administration, Congress was responsible for issuing coinage.  The first U.S./Philippine coins were minted in 1903 in Philadelphia and San Francisco and bear both the Identities of the United States and "Filipinas" (Spanish for The Philippines).  During the commonwealth period, coinage was issued primarily at the Manila Mint ("M" mint mark). During the Japanese Occupation no Philippine coinage was issued. In 1944 and 1945 coins were only struck at the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints.

Thanks Nancy- wonderful bit of history.! I wonder if many U.S.A. collectors know about this and do they collect the coins.?

Ok you mob I can see that this is getting stagnant.
Here are the new rules of engagement.
Every member that participates and does a trade will at the end of the year go into a draw to see who wins the prize.
More than 1 trade =more than one ticket in the draw.
The more trades done = a better prize for the winner.
I am ineligible to win so it is all above board and could be a heap of fun IF we ALL get behind it.
We are ALL collectors and we ALL love to wheel, deal and have a bit of a gamble every now and then :good:

I have Nevol’s coin on my desk and it is open for trade .
I will endeavour to put something extra in each trade I post out (mystery coins) to Keep the momentum going.
So stop being a mob of sheep and get off your bums and give this a crack, at the end of the day one of the traders will reap all the benefits of this and will be a great Chrissy prezzy for someone.

Unlike the US CCF member that I got this idea off I will not benefit at all from this and a bit of postage cost that I will have to fork out will be miniscule compared to the enjoyment one of you will get from winning this trading idea. :yahoo:

Can you give some idea of a suitable value of an item to trade?
I like the idea of participating,  but have no idea what that is worth.
