[attachment=3769]Hi, newbie here.  I picked up the following coin in a $1 Armaguard roll from the Comm Bank.  Just after feedback on how this would be classified.  Note there is damage to the obverse of the coin.  Sample image below, other images located in my gallery.

Good one! :good: It's a nice tilted partial collar.

Here's a link to some info on the error.

The obverse has sure seen some issues, perhaps caught in a coin counter, or roller, or could perhaps been jammed at the mint. (I'll leave the detective bits to the experts).

Well done. :yahoo:  That is not a common error.

It's a shame about the Obv damage, but it's still a keeper in my opinion.

And may I say it's great to see a new member jumping right in and participating. :yahoo:

Is the obverse damage due to some flaw in the alloy? If the chunks had broken off at the blanks stage (perhaps due to the rimming machine- do they rim the dollar blanks?) then the blank may not have fitted properly in the collar causing the partial tilt. Or is it PMD, if so how as that isn't the normal damage seen on road kill or similar coins.
And welcome to the forum Leonard.

Does look a little like that obverse damage might possibly have been a consequence of the rim error. A planchet flaw would certainly have facilitated that.

I'm not at all convinced that's PMD. I'd like to see some better images to be sure, but it does look like part of the error, either cause or effect.

And yeah, most definitely a keeper.

Oh, and  :welcome:

Might want to do something about the username though. ;)
