Well my NBN connection is up there with Norway and Sweden for downloads from Australia, Americas and Asia. From Europe and UK I drop back to Around the Japan and Netherlands mark.
Upload speed are typically 3 to 4 Mbps.
My connection 'rated' speed is 25/5 Mbps. I would like to go to 50Mbps but my ISP doesn't offer that and I think taking their 100Mbps plan at a hefty price premium is not going to give me a significant, subjective performance improvement. I should be happy with what I have but it is human nature to want more. Please Sir, I want some more...
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

The reason why it is faster in South Korea than Australia is that the signal has less distance to travel thus less resistance.

That's my 2c's worth anyway.......!

Ummm.. NO!

Light doesn't work that way. Which is why you can run fibre across the bottom of oceans with no degradation whatsoever.

The real reason is because we have a bastardised, lobotomised system made up of a mixture of cut-rate and obsolete technologies, coupled with deliberate policies to screw people out of the maximum possible amount of their hard-earned. And we can thank the Libtards for that. If idiots hadn't swallowed their bullshit and voted them in, we would now have a state-of-the-art and future-proof network with nothing more to spend on it for centuries.

But then again, voters have never been reknown for their intelligence, have they? Look no further than the US and UK if you need more proof. ;)

I don't think that was their reason for voting Labor out. I think they just got sick of all the leadership spills and wanted some stability. Now that they know that didn't work, they'll probably go the other way next time. :winkextra:

What has happened is similar to building the Sydney harbour bridge But only having a single lane dirt road at each end of it

That's how they build roads in Queensland. :(

In regards to my first comment re the NBN:   Am I allowed to change my mind.

It is slow and doesn't like loading movies that I frequently watch from UTube.

Admittedly, I selected the slower of the two feeds but the sales rep advised me the lower speed would suffice for my needs.

Um, I don't think so!

LOVE IT! Pity there isn't a larger image anywhere on the web. :(

And yeah, I know that we always vote governments out, not in. Probably a structural defect there, and it means we end up with ongoing disasters as a result of distaste of sideshows which history would call trivialities.

The dirt roads are another classic example. Melbourne STILL doesn't have a proper functioning road network, and now they've got the taste for troll roads, its inevitable that we never will. We will choke on our own ineptitude sooner rather than later.

And yet, we have proven in the past that we are capable of truly breathtaking awesomeness. Like the Snowy Hydro scheme for example. That was an incredible achievement, which I cannot see could possibly happen today. Heck, we can't even manage to drill a couple of holes and run a bit of wire to them:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-08-30/geothermal-power-plant-closes-deemed-not-financially-viable/7798962

This project ultimately failed because of the unwillingness of government to run 400km of power line out there. Something we did here to supply Alcoa in Portland at bargain-basement prices, I might add. :dodgy:

What I can't understand is why they're able to build a railway line all the way out to the Adani coal mine, and another one linking Brisbane and Melbourne, but they're completely unable to build one linking one side of Brisbane to the other. Then there's the new trains built in India that have never seen the light of day, and the lack of drivers to run the current trains that we have, all courtesy of the Qld LNP. Then they have the gall to ask for election while Labor's still trying to clean up their mess. Queensland used to be the smart state. Unfortunately, that's not the case anymore. The politicians just get dumber and dumber with every single election cycle. :cray:

When NBN was first being discussed,  I said it was like "Everyone must have a ferrari".
Now it's "Everyone must have a Ferrari, but the only tyres that can go on it are retreads limited to 40kph"

So true. Everyone wants a Ferrari, as long as the government pays for it. ;)

Ha ha ha. No one ever used those number plates. We all preferred sunshine state ones. :laugh2:

Ahh, but the government was never going to pay for it. That's what makes the whole thing a sad joke.

With projects of this scale, government has to fund it, sure. But that's effectively a loan, to be repaid in various ways, almost entirely by users. Which nobody had a problem with.

What people object to is being charged Ferrari prices and being sold a derelict wagon instead, AND having the perfectly serviceable family car towed away and crushed as part of the deal.
