The 1997 $5 Bradman coins were Bi-Metallic Aluminium-bronze center in Stainless Steel ring.

Yes indeed Nevol. Below is one of the seller's pics where to me the two dumps looked to be a different colour.

Uni, I didn't notice that one, but it makes me wonder how the heck did one person get their grubby hands on so many of these?

Are RAM selling off their unfinished leftovers? :shok:  I doubt it!

These items have a very fishy smell about them, and the seller 'prefers' people to pay direct to his Bank A/C, yeah that's always a great idea. :dodgy:

I doubt they got them straight from the mint. They've obviously found a way to get legitimate coins and remove the interiors from them. Chances are, they're just glued in, so all they have to do is find a way to loosen the glue without damaging the coins. I just hope there are enough undamaged coins around to meet demand in the future. :dodgy:

They wouldn't glue them in, that is not how bi-metallic coins are made. The force of striking the coin would force the dump and ring to lock tightly onto each other (much like a rivet). So they have taken the coins into their workshop and forced the dump out, then they bodgie up a fake dump (or more likely use legitimate blanks from any country whose coins are similar in size to the dump,  this might explain why they are the wrong metal).
Then flog at a hefty mark up to dupes.
Lots of fakes on fleabay (especially Centenary florins and 1938 crowns), those of us with experience know what to look for but if you are a novice then you are taking a risk.

Seriously that seller is a definite fraudster he wants $100 for dipping this coin in acetone to remove the paint.
Please report him and shut him down

I agree with Neal that the different  metals used in the bimetallic coins are designed to be locked together during the Minting process, However there are various methods that can be used to separate them.
I am pretty sure that the Canadian "Twoomy" $2 coin has been the subject of many a shonky "Error" listing on eBay for many years and as we don't have too many Australian bimetallic coins these latest eBay scams using the Don Bradman coin is quite a new scam.

I have a 1998 20 cent coin with similar marks around the rim, I picked up in my change, I thought it was junk but kept it.

Nevol

I also have one somewhere, can't recall the denomination.

I knew it was junk but kept it as an example of what some people do to deface coins.

I wonder what satisfaction they get from doing it.

I've sent the seller a message, so will see if I get a response.

These sort of sellers have absolutely NO interest in us telling them that their "errors" are in fact PMD Because they already know that :dodgy:

Received this message from the seller:
QuoteIf you have a good look at it and side on you will see

Auction ended, re-listed.

I can't be bothered following it up any further, at $500 I doubt any sensible person is going to bite.

They don't even show a picture of it on its side, so we just have to take their word for it. That's not very fair when they won't accept any returns. :dodgy:

Here's another eBay "gem": http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Remembrance-Day2014-Error-Coin-No-Colour-Ex-Mint-Roll-/112395783279

Once again, they won't accept any returns. :@

There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know.

Nuff sed!

Extremely rare $2 coins from Remembrance Day 2014. These coins are from a mint roll so they are all in UNC+ condition , I was lucky enough to find a very small number of them in a roll. I've spoken to the quality control at the RAM who told me at most .3 of a% would've found there way out like this. I wonder who the so called RAM Quality Controller is
