I don't sell a lot, maybe 2 or 3 per week but I do like to get it over and done with. I must admit I've wondered about bogus not received claims (never had one) and never thought that not promptly leaving feedback was not a good idea.

the only item I have never received was from a member of this forum a few years ago ( maybe 2 or 3 years ) it was my SS gift , but at Christmas time I know A P  is very busy and things get lost so I over looked it , and said nothing , I also have never given out or received bad feedback to any body unless I have received bad feedback first , and it has only been a couple of times , and because I wrote coins on the custom form and the A P  would not except it ..
take care because we care ..

It is impossible for a seller to leave a negative feedback so what you are saying cannot happen.
[/quote]

Then why bother ?

Also for the record, I left positive feed back to the seller who did not leave me feedback because I can not just plan ignore when someone does the right thing (ie seller was very prompt posting the item and packaging it very well etc) .. it annoys me when people dont leave me feedback when I do the right thing..

All good.. now I understand the thinking behind no feedback first..

I hope that was not a SS that I organised.
I do know who has been assigned to who,  but I would not expect anything shonky from the SS participants.

I just left feedback to all my buyers in usually wait until they leave feedback to let me know that they are happy with the purchase
Lots of different points of view on this

Purely by coincidence this message came a short time ago;
"Hi,
I received products well packed yesterday and in overall very good condition, so thank you so much for that. However, the inside of the sugar pot presents in a fairly poor state. It is stained brown and has a crack on the inside. I attempted to clean it and the stain is still there.
I look forward to your response."

Now all our china items are very carefully inspected before listing and a crack or indelible stain consigns the item to the bin instead. Our 'item specifics of all china items states "Most of our china items are used so they may have some wear. Any noticeable marks or flaws will be mentioned in the description." [except where we do know it is unused -e.g. in original, unopened packaging].

Here is a photo from the listing,

So what would you do? Answer later.

P.S. Of course a die crack for one of my coins would be a mentioned feature.

If you are certain that there wasn't any stain or crack when you sent this away then it looks like the buyer is trying to gouge a discount from you.
Your best approach to this would be to get the buyer to send this back and you will issue a refund when it returns in the same condition that it was sent in.

Actually we sent a very polite message saying we will send a replacement next available post.
And add that buyer to our blocked bidders list of course.
Otherwise negative feedback is almost certain -deserved or not.

What I would liked to have done is ask that the item be broken (along the crack) and a photo provided to prove so and we will replace it. But anything smart just invites negative feedback, which is almost impossible to have removed. Cost of returning it makes that exercise uneconomic.

What's wrong with our photo?

Not long an eBay member but, possibly, has been around before. We had one that had had five different user names previously (all very similar, so that is how we found out) and all had been cancelled by eBay! [Don't know why they were cancelled but could make a good guess.]

P.S. If we did not have another as a replacement would have just issued a refund (and still put the buyer on the blocked list). Unfortunately we have had to do that a few times and, if we have bothered to check later, positive feedback from other sellers (sellers can't give other than positive feedback -what a joke) with negative comments. And, sometimes. 'not a registered member" message.

From what I have seen there are More dodgy sellers on eBay than there are dodgy buyers.
I have only had one problem with a bogus "item not received" case and that was for $200 worth of pre decimal notes that I stupidly sent unregistered.
This particular buyer filed a case 2 days after he bought the notes, nowhere near enough time for a package to get from WA to Queensland.
I knew that eBay would side with the buyer and so did he and I got shafted royally So since then I send Nothing without tracking.
Then you get the buyers that after winning an item on a whim or under the influence of a few too many shandies that make up some BS excuse to return the item.
This IS a pain in the bum but as long as they haven't damaged the coin I just refund and add them to the "Norty" list.

The worst of the Doggy buyers are the ones that try and scam you for a part refund for some BS problem (Like Jeffs Buyer) with the hidden threat of a neg and the buyers that try to return a substitute coin and keep the good one.
These are the ones I report to eBay.

On a whole though the Vast majority of buyers are normal honest folk and are a pleasure to do business with and the 1 in thousand ratbag doesn't put me off selling on the Bay.

I can't see the whole thing - thought maybe there was a problem with the inside bit you can't see. Also, why didn't you ask the buyer the same thing. I can understand how it might have got cracked in transit (they did say it was well packaged) but what about the stain?

EDIT: Is negative feedback so bad that its worth paying for a replacement item or a refund to avoid it? And what happens if they complain about the replacement. Hope I never have to block any buyers - there are not enough of them interested in my coins to begin with. I also hope that by using PayPal only as a seller I will have some protection but I'm not counting on it?
