All parts are moulded injection styrene (plastic) except for the bogie frames which are a slippery type of plastic known as delrin or POM. When I first got into the hobby about 30 years ago, injection moulded styrene kits was about the best one could do if you modelled Australian outline, that's if you didn't wish to pay squillions on a small quantity of ready to run brass available off the shelf.  The only other option was to scratch build, and there were some incredibly talented people (not me) in the hobby who could accurately reproduce anything they wished, and these days they are still at it simply because they can.  Also, today  it's incredible what's available ready to run in plastic Aussie outline, and the accuracy is second to none.  The reason I find myself assembling these kits at the moment is that during a recent clean up I found a box of kits that were purchased years ago and then forgotten about. :kez_11::biggrin:

Hrmph.. typical Sydneysiders. Neither the Melbourne Model Railway Society http://mmrs.org.au/ nor Hobson's Bay Model Railway Club http://www.hbmrc.net.au/ are on that list. Both of which have extensive permanent layouts, at Auburn Railway Station and a railway building at Docklands respectively.

I popped over the road from Goldy's a little while back, and spent a couple of hours gawking at his neighbour's mostly-VR layout. Well, more bulk rolling stock storage than layout

After about 30 years of on again off again on again involvement in the hobby,  I've just done an inventory count. Bugger...Locos 30, rollingstock 287, plus building kits and ancillary items etc. And still no layout to run them on :dash1:

But then the other day I couldn't resist this little gem, A 5 ton gantry crane in HO scale all brass construction. A bloke will never get to tick off his 1930 penny, Johanna bucket list at this rate :cray:

You could buy a lot of things for the price of a 1930 penny.

You COULD have made that. Can't make a 1930 penny. Well... unless you have the resources of the Troutski Mint of course. ;)

A 5 ton gantry crane
much cooler than a 1930 penny

I used to have a cable car with the winches etc
it was metal - I bought it at an op-shop

cannot for the life of me find it and I never would have thrown it out
all worked 100%

So, who do you have around who would have? In my case it was my idiot brother, who has zero respect for other peoples' stuff. ;)
