There were 70 tickets sold in the first rush through the doors on Saturday and the place was packed for most of the morning. Sunday was a little quiet. Dealers I've spoken to were happy not just with the numbers but the fact that most people through the door were genuine collectors.

My Medallion arrived today , a spitting image of Markins (Scratches and all).
The interesting thing about this one is the Victoria cross seems to be bonded to the Medallion and is in high relief on the coin and the ribbon is enamelled .
All in all a rather Pleasing Piece :good:



I have just compared my images with Marks and have come to the conclusion that the "Scratches" must in fact be Die polish marks as they are exactly the same on both pieces :good:

The VC was struck separately and then hand enameled with vitreous enamel then glued to the coin.  Barrie Newman at Adelaide Mint (who struck the coin) specializes in enameled finishes like this.

And yes, they are die polish marks.

I'm glad it arrived safe and sound Trout and that you like medallion. I have to say I'm rather proud of the work that the Adelaide Mint did for the NAV. A number of societies still produce medallions, but most of them, for obvious cost reasons, ship the work off shore. I'm glad we got it made in Australia, especially given the theme of the piece, and we were able to make use of the Adelaide Mint's unique ability (in Australia at least) to apply the vitreous enamel it certainly makes it different to most medallions and coins currently in production. I also can't thank Mark and Kathryn enough for getting word out there.
