I would think that between all the different members here we would own a big percentage of all the high end Canberra Florins between us :good::)

My Nan gave me one of these on the weekend, I think it's a beaut of a coin. She also gave me a 1937 Crown in pretty good nick.

Just wondering if anyone could help me out. What's the best way to store/preserve these types of coins?

ausjack

:welcome: marksy, either put them in a 2x2 or a saflip.

Thanks for the welcome and tips ausjack, I'll have a look around.

Just avoid anything PVC as it will destroy your coins.

She would have had them in a drawer along with her unmentionables.

Ah the famous Nanna's Knickers draw storage facility has been the "Keeper" of many a nice Canberra florin.
I bought one a while back that I named "Lorna" because that was the name of the woman that the bit of paper that the coin was wrapped in had on it.
This was also found in her knickers draw after she had passed on unfortunately.
I still have that scrap of paper that the coin was wrapped in for so many decades and this coin graded MS65.

Haha, she said she kept them in alfoil as she didn't know how to store them (pre-google, pre-this forum).

ausjack

 foil, gee lucky there wasn't some sort of reaction between the two metals. Please post a pic if you get a chance marksy :good:

ha ha well alfoil keeps the leftovers in the fridge for longer
might just work for coins!

trout

HeHe
We used to cover penny's in alfoil and rub the design through to make them look like half crowns

We used to rub pennies and halfpennies with illicitly obtained mercury and pass them off as florins and shillings.
God knows what we may have been doing to our health by rubbing the mercury on with bare fingers! :shok:
