Quote from: 'trout' pid='84185' dateline='1454564249'The vertical part of the "Handrail" is either a small "Nick" or a carbon spot/blemish.

Thats a posibility Jim,as you have probaly guessed i don't know but so far no one has seen it on a similar Coin, thats why i hope i can get a Coin to compare, even it takes a year or so.There is also something else not right but i won't mention on here just yet as i have received an offer for the Coin but unless the ante is raised by a considerable amount it won't be going anywhere.
My 'ádvisors' are both over 80 years of age,one is a former Coin dealer, but they have never seen the 'rail' before on any coin but on the other hand they never had access to a digital microscope so who knows how many are out there.
Anyway i appreciate all the replies, honest opinions are always the best, its certainly a intriguing coin.

This image is not in perfect focus and was taken through the plastic of a slab but it does show most of the detail.
This is a MS65 coin and the strike is rather good, Your coin also is rather well struck but has seen quite a bit of circulation with the associated dings and scratches circulation causes.
You can see the same lines above the 3 steps as on your coin in this image and it is not too hard to imagine a hit or carbon mark making this look like a handrail as on your coin:ok:

Oops forgot the image

Quote from: 'Unicorn' pid='84183' dateline='1454555813'Sorry Basil but I really have to agree with Mark. (Please excuse my danger post I threw in while I was searching for a reasonable example ...... just found it).

No problem with expressing an opinion Uni.,and Mark knows more about Coins than me so i am happy to get peoples thoughts.
As i posted before it looks like the Coin has taken a whack, that was my first instinct, but after being told the force applied to that groove that caused the facade to laminate was the size of a pinhead and was probaly caused by the strike,i accordingly expressed that opinion here.No one else agrees (so i'm taking my photos and going home,LOL.) so its time to get back to explaining  the 'rail' which may be as Trout said,be part of the original design, thats exactly what i was originally told but then it was still considered to be a hand rail that was removed from later dies.
Time will tell,i am still waiting on replies from several people.

:laugh2: .... All good Basil.

It is a lovely set of steps that is for sure. I don't have any left :-/ so I can't do any comparisons to help at all.

What a Coin, its a Beauty,i'll try and post a close up of the Steps here Tomorrow.I can't see any hint of a rail thou.

Quote from: 'trout' pid='84185' dateline='1454564249'I have had a really good look at the "Handrail" images you have put up Basil and have come to the conclusion that the parallel line that makes up the top of the handrail is in fact part of the design,  you can  see exactly the same thing on the left at the top of the steps.
The vertical part of the "Handrail" is either a small "Nick" or a carbon spot/blemish.

I think you may be correct Jim,i can see it now,i'll try & get some better Pics. from a different angle. No wonder no one has seen it before, that explains why.

Close up of Auto's Coin.

Trouts Coin on RHS..i can see now that the the top bar of the rail is probaly a part of the Building at the top of the steps, just more pronounced than on the later mints.Well done Jim,last Pic. on page shows it when you know what to look for.

I won a Proof Like Canberra florin on Numisbid that is graded MS63 and I have sent it back to PCGS for "Reconsideration" to see if I can get it re attributed/graded as a PL coin instead of just a MS coin.

This is the coin

Repoman

Hi Everyone - I inherited a large number of coins about 20 years ago when my Grandmother passed away. Long hisory of collectors in the family apprently and my great grandfather was also avid coin collector up until he died in the late 1960s. A lot of the coins in the collection were collected by my great great grandfather - including some he brought back from the middle east in the first world war. Probably will never figure out what some of them are!

Anyway the Coins have been in storage whilst I have been overseas for the last 15 years. I have just dug them out and one that I really like is the 1927 Florin pictured below.

Obviously I know what it is but I am wondering how the difference is told between the normal circulation and the proof versions - as they all look the same to me. The 1927 particularly is in great nick and seems to sharper than any other coins from the era I have... I have had a look at this and am not convinced either way...

You can see where I am going with this and I have no idea of the value of it - outside of its sentimental family history value of course!

What if any are the identifiable differences between the two versions? Approx values? Anyone?

here is a PROOF 1927 FLORIN (GENUINE COIN) pic from Drake Sterling repoman
reckon your coin looks like this?

robbiegal

This coin doesn't look quite right to me - might be the over exposure that makes it look a bit funny
Got the obverse pics yet?

Hi repoman and
:welcome:
Your coin is what I would call a "Pocket piece "  :ok:
The high points have been worn and they stand out making it look like a proof.

Thanks all for the responses Trout and co,

My picture really doesn't do it justice, but as Robbigal says - it's doesn't look right to me either.

There something about this coin that just doesnt look like it should or the others I can find around the web.  Over and over again I have examined it with a magnifying glass and I can't find another coin that has the same exact markings... It does have a raised ring around the 1927 rather than a channel that others appear to have. It also doesn't appear to have the stairs as obvious as others...

Trout - How does one find out for sure what it is?

It's tough to upload good quality imagines when you're limited to 200kb...?? Sorry. Any thoughts on how to get be res images up better?
