NZCoinerrors

I agree Runway they are very undervalued but I think it has something to do with the amount of UNC coins available.  There is almost always at least 1 for sale on trademe.co.nz.  There was alot of research about this Mule last year done by Paul Bicknell (a member of the Royal Numismatic society of NZ) where he managed to get copies of letters between the Royal mint and the NZ Government at the time as well as a heap of other information.

Sadly most of the NZ Mules are almost impossible to find and some collectors that do have them have multiples as they were found in the same mint bags.   I still have not had that luck and have searched thousands of mint rolls / bags lol

PCGS graded mules (in MS grades) have big prices asked for them. But they are worth buying in lesser grades I think -long term price is likely to go up. And even 'lesser grade' probably means a rather good coin as most were plucked from circulation quickly; before they had much exposure to wear and tear.
The going prices on TradeMe now seem to be quite a bit higher than what I paid for one from there a few years ago.

Maybe I should get some of my stuff graded lol.

Just out of interest and I should probably ask this in a different thread but where do most aussies buy coins from online?  is it ebay or somewhere else.  In NZ we have trademe as the main place we buy and sell but I have been looking to sell on ebay recently just not so sure about it.  Wife does not allow me to keep as many coins as I would like but it is hard not to bring mint rolls home when I work at a bank

Australian coin

yeah no1 site would be ebay for buying coin, selling too for me (they just have the biggest audience)

I have also used quicksales - I got a threepence blob from this site

silver stackers - used this site, good if you only want fillers and bullion grade stuff, they are known to clean junk silver (person to person private buying and selling)

there are the obvious company sites
royal Australian mint
Perth mint
and the dealer sites

then you get the coin auction sites

pity that you don't work in an aussie bank NZC !!!

I agree eBay but worth checking out Facebook 'Buy, Swap & Sell' pages too. Apparently they pushing to get more into the sales market -much like what eBay used to be before they started favouring 'commercial' sellers and stiffing the 'Mums and Dads' sellers.

Another thing; anyone who does some noodling (or even keeps an eye on their change) will know that original type NZ decimals turn up frequently in Australian circulation. Last few weeks I have been picking up some rather high grade 20ยข from my noodling -EF and up. Someone is feeding them into the pond. My theory is that people who have been sitting on them have now found out that they can't take them next time they go to Aotearoa ( I love that name) as nobody will take them.

Ha! I know the feeling.

Quote from: 'NZCoinerrors' pid='75864' dateline='1437385786'2005 is easier than 2004 from what I am told as the designers initials do not match up the same as the set variety.  Sadly I do not own sets for these years (or many of the later years) as they got to expensive for something that was often a lot different than a circulating coin.  I have been asking dealers for any broken or damaged sets they might have so i can break some coins out to get new photos but so far no luck.

Thanks - I don't have any a 2004 or 2005 set either but I do have a 2006 set so I might take a look at it some 2004 coins I have.

Where was it published?

Don't know about other denominations but I sent a few rotated NZ 5 cents to Nancy a while ago so you can look out for them as well :)

Talking about NZ coins, I'm looking to buy this coin for a friend, but I know nothing about NZ pre-decimals.
Does it look OK to you guys? Maybe one of you has one that you might like to sell too.

Looks okay to me Triggersmob. All the ones I've seen have bagmarks (that one is no exception) but they're pretty minimal. Price looks okay to me too (I didn't check the catalogue but I paid $40 for one in similar condition earlier in the year).

If I was chasing one, I'd be very inclined to use Trade Me, as they are the best place for NZ coins.  I bought heaps of mine from there. I had one particular seller who use to look after me and I could probably dig up his name if you're interested Steve.

I have purchased from the same seller and highly recommend him too.
