Hello
So I was here awhile ago (forgot account name/attached to old email address) I got attacked by someone saying I couldn't use the term bubble for a 20c variety as it was a term they used first??? anyone remember Haha anyway ... Went through my collection again after a few months and I want to know if I should just spend some or sell or keep? I've only been in and out of the hobby for about 2 years so I don't have much of an dea ... I will post more but the first lucky one is this 2006 $1 with a pretty cool misstrike? in my opinion :) thanks in advance !

I will add more photos once I figure out how :s

Welcome back.. who were you?

Attachments suck.. there's a small limit, and they look pretty ordinary.

Get yourself an account on imgur.com, upload the pics there (you can even send them by email if you like), then link them inline here. Simply use IMG tags, just like HTML, but with square brackets ([] instead of <>).

So for example,

[ img ] http://i.imgur.com/Jpei7Fb.jpg [ /img ]

(without the spaces of course) becomes:

Easy, eh?

:welcome: to the Forum! Don't worry about someone getting up your nose, it's all meant either in good fun or as a way of trying to help you.

I do remember the 'bubble' discussion, but the majority of it happened on the CCF Forum.

Many more 'bubble' types of coin have been discovered by a few of our members since then, so I hope you feel comfortable enough to hang around this time. :ok:

Welcome meep meep don't worry there are a few rude people on this site but mostly there are a lot of nice and knowledgable collectors who are only too happy to share information.Stick around and put in your 20 cents worth

Great to see you posting :good:
I think I bought a couple of these Bubble 20 coins off you when you first discovered them.
I don't normally have much interest in error coins but this particular error fitted into and enhanced the design of the Platypus in the water on the 20 cent coin. :good:

Thanks Stevo I'm a bit older now (22) so not as discouraged easily I hope haha

Hey trout I didn't discover it but the person who did wasn't happy that others were using the term they coined for it aha and I didn't sell any either it might have actually be the person who did discover it and coin it the bubble you bought them off (: I've only ever found 3 and I still have them (:

Thanks guys for being nice! Haha
Hey fulvio thanks for the photo tips I got it to work yay!

Goldseeker

Hey meepmeep, that looks like a nice error but clearer pictures would go a long way particularly of the edge of the coin.

Looking at the flat coin, it certainly looks like a great offset or out of collar mint.   (I think that is the correct terminology).

If you are clearing that one out, my address is as follows.................

Looks like it might be a straight partial collar. Great find! :yahoo:

Tilted partial collar I think, judging from the second pic.

Meep, glad to see you worked it out. One other thing though.. do try to crop/rotate pics to maximise the effect. And when saving, I've found 75% JPEG compression minimises file size without loss of detail. Most of my pics are 1/6th of their original file size as they came out of the camera, and you'd be hard put to see the difference.

Now, can we get an edge shot that shows if its straight or tilted please? :)

PS: Don't listen to Goldy. He was just telling me he has too many coins and has to start dumping them. I can give it a far better home than he would.

Hey thanks I will have to do it tomorrow arv or the next day as I have a statistics exam tomorrow :o and I will have to triple read what you just said and than figure it out haha. I  just have my phone for a camera but it's a pretty good camera so I should be able to get a much better shot + with your advice fingers crossed

Not at all. Collar errors are rather rare, and highly desirable. Even without better pics, and in what looks to be pretty poor condition, its worth at least ten times face value, and possibly quite a lot more in a bidding war.

The secret to phone pics is lighting. Even more so than with any other camera, since the sensors are so small.

Try photographing it outdoors in full sunlight, against a black backdrop. Get as close in as you can focus. If the phone has a macro setting, or a macro lens attachment, use it.

On a Mac, I pass all my pics, whether from my camera or the iPod, through GraphicConverter, saving the pics at 75% quality. On a PC, I believe ACDSee does the job, but since I avoid PC's like the plague, maybe someone else can advise. And there are probably phone apps that will do the job too, but I don't use any.

Hi and welcome back meepmeep, I think Ian McConnelly referred to this as a ram strike in one of his cab articles. Something to do with the collar die being out of position during the minting process. I don't know much about the how, I just collect em ha ha. Someone else may be able to elaborate. Anyhow, this is one I came across.

As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!
