cool
fits in with the theme of the coloured inner ring which is probably efficient use of the existing machinery set up in the die & colour rooms

Quote from: 'Triggersmob' pid='70928' dateline='1429412499'I just snatched this pic from the RAM Facebook page.

Damn, you beat me to it. Ross gave me one of the prints they had, but I had to wait till the end to get it.

I'll do a page of pics from today shortly. Crappy, from my iPod, but you'll get the feel of the event.

Managed a long chat with Ross about the state of the collector scene, which provided some interesting insights. They know they've been overproducing, but he pointed out they're under massive commercial pressure to make profits. Interestingly, when I asked him what he thought the best coins they've produced were, he started a laundry list of technical innovations.. the curved coins, the triangular coins, etc etc. I told him in my opinion it was the early wedding sets, and explained why. I *think* he got where I was coming from, but meh... ;)

Oh, nearly forgot...

The only coins they managed to bring down were the 20 or so they gave to the dignitaries. He wanted to bring some for a swap, but wasn't able to get any. That tells me they all went to Armaguard ages ago, before the planning for this event.

Oh, and in other news, he confirmed my suspicions that the mint DOES in fact produce the sacks of UNC bags. I told him that I'd been chasing this news since the Coronations, and his staff had consistently refused to answer, citing 'security concerns'. :P

Clearly Armaguard broke the embargo. Wish I'd known that before our little chat. I did make the point that the current distribution model is screwed. :(

Question was asked on Facebook if there is a possibility of buying the $2 or just through circulated coins

RAM replied - this coin is just to be released through circulation.

:(

JeffH

The one on eBay is up to $33 already!
I suspect the seller doesn't actually have one as the picture is only the RAM design drawing. Probably has an inside run with Armaguard and knows where the first deliveries will be tomorrow.
Hasn't sold any coins in recent times.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

The red $2 just got a run on the Channel 7 news.

Hah, I wish.. I tried to snag this one at the end of the day, but he told me they were all preallocated to the dignitaries. So everyone from the Governor down got one, but all I got was an A4 print, which will come in handy to show tellers. ;)

Bet most of the "dignitaries" don't give a toss about them. Give them to people who do! :dodgy:
