:laugh2: I was trying not to offend but if the old fart seem to have a colt following I might have to adjust the thread ;)

Uni I just don't know whatto say..yes I do, you crack me up :laugh2:

Kel Kel Kel, mate if I'm getting around as well at your age I'll be very happy :friends:

I'm probably the 2nd oldest with Kel giving me 7 months. That puts both of us in the 'Oldest Farts' category.

Quote from: 'ausjack' pid='68528' dateline='1425806210'ok should I add a few more ages so the "old farts" don't feel so old :) Nah OMF but it is showing that coin collecting is for the middle age and beyond so the mint needs to pull their finger out if they want the younger gen to play but I just don't know how they could do it :scratch_one-s_head:

and not by pad print rubbish :dash1:

not all coin collectors are RAM decimal collectors AJ

ausjack

No you are both amazing :ok: Keep up with me easy enough and I have a long time to go to catch ya's..gee I'm trying to keep up with you :)

Yeah I know RG but just wondering how to get more of the younger gen into it as the RAM doesn't seem to have any idea, I'm a collectic (everything and anything) so I have proofs, pre and decimal and world and errors, no bloody wonder I keep misplacing things :) I've been trying for years to work out what I want to collect and just can't do it so a collectic I am and proud of it :yahoo:

There was an old saying about old age and treachery. Does it still overcome youth and skill? I can't remember:scratch_one-s_head::biggrin:
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

robbiegal

tricky one AJ
if you hang around the mint the place is always full of children
I think that they are doing much more than you are giving them credit for - it is fashionable to bag the mint here in this forum but being a true loyalist & a regular visitor to the RAM, I struggle with those comments

they do much more than you may realise, the abc & bugs, animals  etc series are examples - those are the issues that are dubbed here as 'granny bait' but are actually targeted for children to collect, and there are daily/weekly education tours  - most days there is a least one or more busload/s of kids both aussie kids and overseas tours of school children

with respect to flashing my age here - i'll make the women's prerogative call- no way!!! ha ha

I hint enough and often enough for most regulars to guess anyways

ausjack

Yes it is RG so I was thinking more along the line of cheaper coins because I was thinking maybe it's because coins are so expensive so you have to have a bit of money to get into it or your like me and save like mad to get a decent one and by the time they get one of those sets together it's cost you a small fortune only to find out the chances are you wouldn't get half your money back if you had to sell them if something went wrong like in my situation because it doesn't take long and medical bills stack up really quickly, I wouldn't have what I have if I was living by my self or had to share accommodation, sorry I think of the poor because I am. I think the mint has very over inflated prices for what they're selling when you take how much they're pumping out :( There's two ways you can go, make them dear and sell fewer or make them cheaper so you sell more, it's a tough call I know but sorry if I offended you because I didn't mean to offend anyone and when the likes of PP and trout that were avid dollar collector and it's driving them away I can see why others aren't getting into it and just because the mint has lots of people going through it it doesn't mean they're selling lots of coins and same as the anda shows, lots of people but not that many buying really because the first days the RAM lines were out the door but the second day is pretty dead and I think the first more are after the exchange coin deal that's not too bad except you have to buy a mint set to get them. So yes I bought one with the hopes the coins would be really nice and better than what I get here from circulation after they have been kicked around the country side and I'm still waiting for the green gollies to turn up :) so we good mate :friends:

Robster

Rather than highlight how 'old' we are, perhaps as collectors we should concentrate on the 'birth year'. e.g. sharing my year is the awesome 57 Chevy and Corvette, Dr, Seuss' (the cat in the hat ) was published, Egypt reopened the Suez canal, Elvis purchased 'Graceland', the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to L.A, Lennon and McCartney meet, "Have Gun, will Travel" airs on television (and Leave it To Beaver).
Sadly, no 1957 Halfpenny but all other coins were minted.!!:wavemulticolor:

Spotto ..... a blown 57 Chevy!

(Name the movie).

Nevol

I have a small collection of coins from my birth year, about 60-70 coins but haven't added to it for several years now.

:laugh2: I like the 57 chev, what a cool car and I know your cool Robster so it all fits :)

I don't want to give too much away but does this give a hint for me :)

true AJ
my coin dealer is ex RAM and he reckons that they charge too much since 1982 for the new issues and the mint sets
this years one have had a price drop I have noticed

not offended at all - every one is entitled to their opinion
