Quote from: 'Goose' pid='85847' dateline='1458444507'What's with the Aussie 2015 $2 coin? A buddy of mine just returned from a cruise around Australia and gave me the $2 coin. The "TWO DOLLARS" on the reverse is barely visible, somewhat like a light strike. Also, the reverse design is minted over/on some words. What were/are those words?
It's a WWI poem called "In Flanders Fields''.

In Flanders fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    John McCrae (1872–1918)

Thanks for the info Nancy. I've heard of that poem, but never read it until now. Thanks again. Also, the mint's picture shows a "C' in the center of the golden ring on the reverse. My coin doesn't have it. What does the "C" represent?

That's a Mint Mark (MM), for Canberra.  Our Mint the Royal Australian Mint (RAM), sells MM coins with several different MMs which those of us with OCD just have to have, so it brings in some extra $$$'s to their coffers.

Some love 'em' others can take them or leave them. I prefer to leave them. I used to chase them, but they are sold in different locations around the country and it makes them difficult to collect them all.

Still no 2015 ANZAC $1 here (country Vic.), the rest are now coming through in larger numbers.

Thanks Nevol - not sure if I knew that the text was in the inner circle

With no mint mark, where was that $2 coin I have minted?

It was minted in Canberra and is a circulation strike coin , That's why it doesn't have a mintmark :ok:

Aha......so a mint marked $2 coin is sold separately or in a set? In the U S we call that a mint's "Revenue Enhancement" ploy.

trout

Quotemint's "Revenue Enhancement" ploy.
RAM has been well and truly doing this for the last 20 years or so

I wonder which Mint started it all off. this "Revenue Enhancement" ploy. There are so many Mints doing it now it's staggering.

Mister T

Saw another 5c piece. Still no ANZAC $1 yet.

ausjack

still only found a couple of 20's and 50's and that's it, they take so long to get here so no wonder they're all beaten up by the time they get here :(

The 2015 seems to be a low mintage year, most common is the 20 c, $ 1 and $2, no Anzac $1 though, only MOR.

I picked up a 2015 Orange $2 coin in my change at the pub in Nullagine .
This place is in the middle of nowhere so it just goes to show that you can find these just about anywhere if you are lucky enough :)
