Hi All,
Haven't been on here for a while but thought I would share my story and hopefully track down the dishonest person who stole my item.

Bought from ebay in the USA for AU$750 a lovely 1969 Yarralumla PNC with registered number 537 on 29th October that took some time arriving so I emailed to find out the tracking number.
The seller got back to me and said that it had been held up in a sorting facility in Italy? for some reason.
Well the box arrived today and when I cut open the front found only bubble wrap inside. There were two problems;
1. The description on the front gave exactly what it was "first day cover from nuphil australia 1969" with a value of $350. An invitation to anyone with a dishonest heart.
2. The sides of the box had not been taped and after careful inspection suspect that they crushed the side of the box enough to slip out the PNC and then put back in the bubble wrap.
So if anyone sees a Yarralumla PNC #537 for sale please let me know by email.
Cheers Dean.

I am sorry to hear that.
We have a good bunch here and I am sure people will keep an eye out for it.
Good luck with finding it.

Bummer... If your Paypal account is linked to a credit card, you can also try the credit card company?

I'm hoping so Robbie. Have sent an email to the seller to let her know what's happened as they are also a victim in this situation.
Will let you know the outcome.

You may have been scammed by the seller.  Several years ago I ordered  a Vatican City mint set from a european dealer.  It was also mailed from Italy, and when it arrived I signed for it and then discovered that the package had been cleverly slit at the side and the contents removed and replaced by cardboard.  The dealer claimed he could do nothing because I had signed for it.
Some other circumstances led me to believe the dealer was involved in fraud.

Oh that sucks!
Unfortunately this happens way to often, especially when the exact item description is written on the box, I always as the seller to make the description something very different for this reason, usually a book!
your item will eventually pop up somewhere!

can you post the link to the listing jumpy?

Yeah, unlucky but it does happen often,Italy is one of the countries with a dicey postal system.I lost a 1938 Crown Slab(just holder,no coin) a few years back, packet had a slit where it had been removed and taped over. The seller was in Israel but listed Oz. stuff on Ebay UK. and had his Co. name,XXXX Coins, plastered all over the packet just inviting a thief.
I would be onto Paypal for a refund.

I think that the poll achieves nothing as you don't know who nicked the coin and you are describing an item that has travelled around the world across various postal distribution centres

although I have been told that the US postal system is very reliable
something about jail sentences for postal interference

Very sorry to hear your story Jumpy.

It's such a disappointment when these things happen. When Ebay first started, I recall reading similar horror stories. It's amazing that over the years, there is still no satisfactory mechanism in place to deal with these issues.

I hope you get a reasonable outcome with the seller.

That is a tough one if the seller can prove deliverer.

In recent times I got a defective item through eBay and in their sales pitch they guarantee free return mailing so I put it into action.

Received a returns label from the seller but it had no proof of delivery included in the cost so started a case with eBay.

Went back over the sellers feedback and found many, many people had been ripped off by this seller so I put the buyers that had been ripped off into 3 different groups with a detailed explanation and it was sent to eBay. I expected no reply from eBay but I did full on!

I will never really know the total outcome but I do know I got a lot of people their money back just because I had a very good look at the sellers history.

Most posties are honest.
Some are not.
More than once I have read of thousands of letters and packages found dumped in an abandoned house. Either the postie was too lazy to deliver or the postie had opened them. All too often nothing is done about those dumped letters and the postie isn't prosecuted.
If you get a package (even if you signed for it) and then find the contents are missing then the seller is liable as they failed to make the package tamper proof.
Always pay by credit card or Paypal so you can make a claim.
Always lodge a claim before the 30 days

I had a similar thing happen with an order from Heritage Auctions in the US, the thieves filled it with paper so the weight remained the same.

I didn't pay for insurance but HA was nice enough to refund it fully anyway.
