Apart from the 1972 5c the 1973 50c found in circulation is rare.
Has anyone sighted one recently?:dontknow:

I come across enough in my noodling that I am tossing back the worst ones. My spares bag of these now has nineteen of them.
1985 and 1993 are the really hard ones to find.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Pedro

I have picked up 5 of the 73's in reasonable nick (VF and above) in noodling over the past 6 weeks so as Jeff says there are still a few out there to be found. Poorer grade ones return to the pond.

Wow I haven't seen a 73 50c in loose change ever :)

I agree with Jeff.
The 1985 and 1993 are much harder to find than 1973.
Although I have had too much on to do any noodling for a while now.  :(

runway

This is definitely the enjoyable part of collecting :)

the early minted decimal coins are in abundance here in Tassie, not hard to find these coins.

Short of giving statistics, I don't think tezza could have given much more info.
Maybe, rather than making someone with not many posts feel bad about their contribution,  you could have asked for more info?
It could be that there have been less requirements for new coins in Tassie, and the older ones have been less "watered down" by new coins.  Or it could be that one persons definition of "abundant" is different to another person.
Tezza,  do you do any searching through large numbers of coins?  Do you have any statistics on what you might be finding in Tassie?

I find your statement very rude runway especially from the king of detailed replies.

well I am with Tezza
I live in the ACT and over the past few months (or most of this year really) heaps of older decimals are showing up in my change & I am lucky to get later years 2011-2014
I suspect someone is dumping the cruddy old stuff back into the change pool
if I tip out my little change purse & I have say - 50 coins - then at least 2/3 will be the older ones, I can keep an eye out for the 1973 50c and see if I am getting any

I have been having a notable amount of 1966 coins show up but not the 1972 5c as I do look out for that little guy

gee statistics ??? nope I am not that OCD with my change purse rumblings - just a good guesstimate from moi

Cougar

I had a look through a bucket of change that I have been throwing into for a few years now and only came up with 3 of the 1973 50c. That's out of approximately 300 50c coins.

runway

No intention to be rude I apologise to Tezza
