ghosting was common on the 1940 pennies

A 1941 K.G showing a heavy die clash plus an extensive die crack through much of the reverse.!

That's a beauty Robster!!

Gee those die have hit hard!

Robster

Thanks Uni, almost every '41 penny I have seen has a wonderfully struck Obverse but equally horrible reverse (regardless of the Mint).!
A middle of the 'war thing no doubt'.!  :dodgy:

the reduced the pressure in the war years to preserve the life of the dies

and it looks like that die was well and truly on the way out

Ooolala ...... what a corker! Talk about having everything on the one coin!

Looking back a page, I didn't realise that your coin is a twin to Robster's!

Robster

Would love to see some 41's with a well struck reverse!

A bit of a mixture this lot, but an interesting variety of the Y. with 9 and 4  closer and wider apart.

Y. Closer spaced 9 and 4. Die cracks similar to the coin Robster posted, maybe a little more progressed.

Y. Wider spaced 9 and 4

Renniks mentions thick and thin 2nd 1s in the date on the 1941Y. and says both are common. Is that another way of describing the wide and narrow spaces between the 9 and the 4?

They all look at bit flat to me AJ, but wish I could take pics like the one posted by Rob9453, it's so :good:
