Along with 18.000.000 others :)

I normally confine my submission to extraordinary coins due to grade or rarity :ok:

oh my florin

Welcome to the forum 123456789. Those coins wouldn't really be economical to send to PCGS. By the way if you are looking for PCGS graded coins try Drake Sterling http://www.drakesterling.com/coins-for-sale and Numisbid http://www.numisbid.com.au/ both are great.

thanks jim , for the info , dawn thought she had something very rare for me .she said to let you know you just made her day .
I knew a bit about them but I just wanted her to see for herself.
I did not want to send them overseas , just wanted to let her know the true value of coins in difference conditions ..

thanks for the effort ..    ,, kel ,,

The 1922 standard date penny has FBL so that is scarce (especially if it has an English obverse) but not worth much more than CBL. Perhaps a dollar in average circulated grade. Not worth slabbing unless AU55 (minimum).

I've had a couple of pennies from the 1950s come back from PCGS recently graded as proofs. I know they are not proofs so they have had to go back for review. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm not a proof penny collector but if I was it would ring some warning bells.

Sounds odd.
Do you have the PCGS numbers/links ?

If they were graded as proof coins I wouldnt be sending them back
It\'s not about who you know it\'s about what you know

You can send them back as a mechanical error, they will regrade them and refund your shipping fees.

There are all types of collectors out there, including those who collect error (mislabled) slabs. If it was a US penny then I'd leave it as is and pocket the mislable premium. For Aussie pennies it would just be a problem to sell or an annoying feature of your collection.
Stevo, sure a proof is worth more, but as the coins are not proofs then Nightparrot would need to sell to a novice "investor" to pocket the premium. That sort of seller would have not sent their coin to PCGS but APCGS and wouldn't raise the issue in this forum.

Nightparrot, which years were these, I haven't heard of this error being made. Were they proof like or do you think pcgs just had a bad day.

I commend your actions in doing this, Well done :good:
The more "Unsavory" people would have sold these off as proofs with the full knowledge that they are wrongly attributed without batting an eyelid.

hum
maybe they are proofs

the 1955's, 56's  can look very proof like

night parrot

I think they are my coins (that some how ended up at you place)
you can post them back to me .....

Nightparrot

Thanks for comments all.

The two coins are very nice coins (proof-like you could say) but I did not think they were proofs.

The first coin was a 1955M penny. When it came back as proof I was surprised but said, oh well, and submitted it to Numisbid for auction. However, Walter said it definitely was not a proof so back to PCGS it went.

More recently, I had a 1956M come back as proof. I am sure it isn't a proof so it has gone back as well. Having received an opinion from Walter, who I'm sure you will all agree knows what he is talking about, I would be very reluctant to sell them on as is.

No certs yet.

The biggest issue here is I am wondering if others have had circulation strikes graded as proofs. One misgrade, yes, but two?

By the way, sorry Robbie no can do but good try.

my coin dealer reckons that those years can fool the best of them
he has warned me to be very careful even when buying those years from a dealer
