Mule or not it's one of the lowest mintage $1 mob of roos coins. Furthermore, the fact that it is not available in any mint sets or other RAM products makes it a very attractive collectable in UNC condition. I think this coin is currently undervalued. I've bought a dozen or so mint rolls and plan to see how they go over the coming years.

It is the lowest mintage MOR and I agree that it is undervalued.
I have 195 rolls neatly stacked away!

Seems many make up their own defining rules here as they go along!

QuoteThe 2010 coin has a mintage of 3.9 mill compared to the 2005 mintage of nearly 5.8 mill, so the 2005 coin is NOT the lowest mintage coin :ok:
May be the first few of the 2005 coins could be considered mules but when they deliberately upped the mintage all that changed.
195 rolls is NOT collecting it is purely speculating in my view .

I'd go along with that. Of course intent comes into it too... if you were going to open them to look for errors, that would be collecting.

Not that there is anything wrong with a little speculation of course.. I have rolls stashed as well, some in quantity. But its not the primary focus.

The big difference between the 2005 and the 2010, apart from the 2 million or so mintage figure, is that the 2010 $1 mob of roos coins is included in the RAM mint set. That's 60,000 or more UNC examples of the 2010 coin in collections around the country/world.

The 2005 $1 mob of roos on the other hand was not included in any UNC RAM products. The vast majority of 2005 coins went into circulation. As a result there is certainly significantly fewer 2005 $1 coins in UNC condition.

I don't care if it's a mule or not, what matters is the number of UNC examples available. I'm confident the 2005 $1 mob of roos is one of the scarcest $1 MORs available to  collectors in UNC condition.

Although I must admit 195 rolls is a bloody lot...:)

The original question in this thread was is the circulation coin a mule. This has got confused with the proof coin. Now we seem to be talking about the rarity of the coin based on it's issue. Now this is three different discussions.

If members want to hoard unc 2005 mor, I laugh because many of us hoard different things for different reasons. Whatever makes you happy, take a punt or not. I do agree that the coin being absent from mint sets or individual issue makes the lower mintage circulation issue the only way to get a nice coin.

Hi Mr Trout.

Your statement that 2010 mintage is 3.9m is incorrect!
FYI 2010 MOR production is as follows:

3.9m 2009/10
7.25m 2010/11
9.105m 2011/12

TOTAL  20,225,0000*

*Source for above quoted numbers are RAMINT annual reports for the years shown.

Some sleazy eBay sellers promoted the 3.9m production and made a killing, knowing quite well that the figure was only for a "part year" or similar.

Yep. Don't forget the Decimal Mintages PDF, from this thread:
http://www.australian-coins.net/showthread.php?tid=951&page=2

http://goo.gl/CdA7n is the link to the file, and its worth checking back a couple times a year, as I'm still trying to correct discrepancies (hence the ? marks and multiple figures for some entries). Its a handy reference, both online (I keep a local copy open in my browsers most of the time for easy reference) and in iBooks on your iDevices. And no, I don't recommend printing it. :P
