Based on the sandpit website, all 1923 halfpennies have flat base letters, so curved base lettering should have been an easy pickup for an 'expert'

So are they really incompetent, or are they in on the scams? And has anyone pointed this out to them?

having dealt with the seller I lean to wards the latter

but I do think that it is unfair to label the buyer as an idiot as the ad is quite convincing about trusting the authentication & grading

after all slabs are promoted as the 'be all end all' for grade, authenticity and all supposedly without the biased fault of other coin professionals (esp. our own aussie numismatists!)
in the long run  we have all had to start our collecting from somewhere and trusted those who confidently give us their advice

"THERE ARE SO MANY MISREPRENSENTED GRADING CLAIMS OF VALUABLE COINS BY VARIOUS SELLERS AND OF COURSE SO MANY FAKES AROUND TOO.   TO SAFEGUARD ANY BUYER I DECIDED TO GET THIS BEAUTY AUTHENTICATED AND GRADED BY AN UNBIASED COIN PROFESSION AND NOW PLEASED TO PRESENT THIS REALLY GOOD COIN TO YOU OUT THERE ON THE EBAY WORLD"

Not good.  Not good at all. unfortunitely, he looks to be getting plenty of business.  very sad

This is precisely why these shysters chose the company name of APCGS so as to give them some sort of perceived credibility .
It is about time that PCGS took this mob to task because they can only damage the TPG market and give ALL TPG's a bad name.
In the meantime there will be many collectors shafted and Jaded in the process .

It shows that you should do your own research and not believe everything
you read.It is likely that most new collectors will be duped by this sort of
scam at some stage. The hope is that they will learn by their mistakes and dotheir own research or join a forum like this where the learning experience is enhanced

This is shameful. As I understand it, PCGS is aware of the issue, although I don't know what their doing about it.

They had better do something shortly because this mob are flooding the market with this sort of crap.
It doesn't take much of a stretch of imagination to work out that eventually PCGS will become synonymous with APCGS in the eyes  of the average collector and both of these slab types will be "Shunned" eventually.
I wonder if these shysters have a contingency programme to do a name change to ANGC if PCGS shuts them down  :dodgy:

On a side note, Has anyone else other than myself reported this to eBay ?

Mate, you already know that ebay won't do squat. However, I have contacted APCGS. Be interesting to see what they have to say.

At least with NGC there is a guarantee and they will "Make Good" on a grading mistake.
I vary much doubt that that would be the case with APCGS :ok:

We'll see. If you're going to set yourself up as a professional offering an expert service, then you must accept the consequences of your mistakes. That goes for any professional in any field, and grading should be no different.

'Professional' by the way does not equate with 'Expert', or even 'Good'. It just means they charge money, whereas an 'Amateur' does it for the love. Many amateurs are far better at what they do than most professionals.

There is a coinaus on ccf that says this coin is genuine.

Typical of those CCF scoundrels.
The coin is a fake.
