So why contact the RAM? What's it got to do with them?

I see your edit now, ok

As I have been informed, at the end of each day of the Stamp Expo, any UN SOLD covers were split between the RAM and Aust Post.

Aust Post have verified that they will NOT be selling their spare folders at all.

The RAM has yet to answer that question.

Only time will tell.

I trust the RAM will NOT on sell any of the unsold covers.

Hi,

What needs to be remembered is that these PNCs have an M mintmark on them, unlike some of the previous daily Coin Show releases like the 1998 Bass and Flinders which have always attracted a significant premium.

With a MAXIMUM of 7500 produced, the coin and the PNC are always going to be in short supply for future collectors.

You will note that the limited release APTA  overprint version of this PNC  (150 produced) is also attracting a significant premium over its $36.00 release price.

Thanks to Goldseeker for his kind offer to forum members to purchase some of these PNCs.

Cheers

I have been watching and waiting for these to come off the boil (which I think they will, if only a modest amount - or at least I am hoping!)

Does anyone know how many were not sold for each of the days?

I asked each day as to how many were not sold and all I got was a nice smile.  It was at one time a security problem as people were securing the PNC's without coins on day one and moving to the end of the line to wait for up two hours to pay for the PNC and get the voucher to get the coin from the RAM Stand.   I think some people got sick and tired of waiting and walked off without returning the cover.   I believe that several or many covers disappeared into thin air and a final daily count couldn't be achieved until reconciliation of monies taken at the end of each trading day.

I spoke with the  AustPost personnel at the show re the security problem as people were taking handfulls of souvenirs and walking away, hopefully to the end of the line to pay for the items.   This happened every day of the show but the Friday and Saturday were the worst for this type of hype.   Sunday saw several more security personnel about the AustPost shop.

I still think that Aust Post may have lost a lot of monies as a result.   Comes down to poor security from the start.

You mention that you are waiting for the PNC's to come off the boil.   I think that they will stay high with a maximum of 1250 sold per day and many not being able to secure heaps on day one, the number of complete sets of this Limited edition PNC will be reduced.   Further, the RAM would not sell you a "M" Counterstamp 50c piece UNLESS you had the voucher to secure it.   Either the chase is on for the Covers or the 50c piece where there should only be a maximum over the six days of the show of 7,500.   if that is the case, surely this would make this particular coin the rarest of all 50c pieces that the RAM has produced.

Thanks for the info Goldseeker, and interesting to hear how poorly the security / process was planned.

I count at least twenty two 50c coins produced by the RAM that have a smaller mintage (than 7,500 as this is the max mintage of the COIN - not the PNC).

Forty Six if you add the Perth Mint into the mix...

You might still be right about the price staying high tho'.

If you count the proofs and gold issues I will agree but if you go with the Copro-Nickle Unc coins only, your count is out and this issue would be the least number produced.

Yep, fair comment.

Would not the 1969 "Yarralumla" Specimen 50c Cu be
the lowest mintage??

Hi,

Actually the 2010 heritage set with just 400 mintage is the lowest RAM issue of a regulation style coin.

The 1c and 2c copper coins were the exact composition of previous 1 and 2 c issues.

The 50cent coin was 80% silver (and round) which matched the original composition  of the 1966 original round 50cent coin.

What really interests me, and I stand corrected on this, but surely this is the first ever Mintmark on a RAM 50cent coin?   Usually Mintmarks have been reserved for $1 coins.

If this is in fact the case, then these PNC/50cent coins must have a significant premium on two grounds:  Mintmark   and   Individual day overprints.

Cheers

Oz 50c Man

just looking on flea-bay, there seems to be a wide variety on prices between the different days... there is a single first day / green post mark on about to finish now and it is at $270 + $8 post!!!   Granted it is a low serial (28/7500) but it has me stumped...
maybe someone knows something about the mintage for that day?

Australian coin

ill just throw it out there I got 11, 12 and 13
1-10 went to VIP Australia post staff/members
so I got the lowest numbers that the public could get :P
if anyone offers $500.00 a piece I would sell ;)
