Main thing is not to worry AJ,cross that bridge if or when it comes,Stress can be more harmful than the actual event people are worried about.

True Basil but tell that to the bloody useless government that has been on the attack from when they got elected and after saying they wouldn't attack pensions or a lot of other things, why can't they take a pay cut. What they get in one pay rise is my pension for 5 to 7 years or more :(

I think the government likes putting "the fear of god" into people and especially the libs.

Same as r9453 - 4 ring. I thought 3 rings were more expensive and two rings don't provide enough stability.

No matter how many rings are in the binder you are going to have problems if you don't store them Flat.
All my binders are the PP type as they also have a sleeve to hold everything together :good:
I do have a couple of the normal business type folders that have slab pages  that hold my PCGS graded 25mm silver dollars collection in :ok:

Be aware that they are almost certainly PVC. In fact, just about all 'padded' binders are made with a cardboard core, optional foam padding and PVC outer. This material WILL outgas corrosive nasties, and if they're in a confined space, the gasses will find their way into the sheets to attack your coins.

PP binders are completely different, being 100% hard Polypropylene. Not as pretty, but much safer.

I had about a dozen of these and they certainly DO tend to turn your coins a nasty sticky greeny colour  and I ruined many a nice coin in them.
I had a lot of fun/revenge burning those horrors :)

Thanks Fulvio, all my coins that are in Binders are also in sealed 2x2's but i'll keep an eye out for corrosion.

Sealed as in stapled, self-adhesive, or ironed shut?

The mylar used in them is pretty good at stopping gasses (though of course a metallised layer would be better, albeit opaque), but the edges are an issue. Heat-sealing them with a hot iron is about the only way to guarantee safety.

Basil

I've always used self-adhesive 2x2 Fulvio, you hear stories but i've never had a problem so far when they are kept in 20 slot pages. With the more valuable Coins,1925/46/Double Dots etc. i put a Staple in the top of the Self-adhesive 2x2 and stack them in boxes, with the bigger Coins,37/38 Crowns i place them in capsules and then put the lot in a Comic Book storeage sheet(on Ebay) and that goes into a plastic ziplock bag.
Not really into Notes but i have a few, they are in Rennik's sheets in a zip binder.
I should add my Coin collecting has been ebbing & flowing for over 50 years,i get bored and the lot gets stacked away, then something happens a couple of years later and out it comes until i loose interest again.
This is the longest non-stop Coin activity in my life so far,i've been devoting time almost daily since Ebay started here in Oz in 1999(2000?),i've also learnt more in the last 16 years than the rest of my Coin Collecting life put together.

Beware the dreaded 'bursters', especially with large coins. The adhesive just isn't permanent. That's why I advocate using staple 2x2's and a hot iron. That melts the mylar into a single piece, sealing the coin in permanently. And they're cheaper than the adhesive ones too. ;)

Those comic bags are PP, or mylar? Both are good, though PP is slightly more permeable. The physical form doesn't really matter.. its the material that counts. Especially if you're going to be sealing them anyway. The ziplock bags are LDPE, same as bank bags, and they're quite permeable as it turns out. Since you're using them in conjunction with better materials, it doesn't matter, but on their own they're potentially a hazard over the long term.

Good to hear you've been here long-term. Hopefully the forum has had something to do with that?

Yeah, learnt a lot on here and CCF,the Ebay Forums were also good when they first started and i used to post on a couple of Stamp Forums in the early 2000's.

Comic bags,i purchased them a few years back before they became fashionable so not sure of material, local Coin dealer told me to put my Notes in them, fold over and then tape shut.
I've heard all the stories about adhesive 2x2 failing,humidity/heat is too high compared to Europe etc. but i've never had a 2x2 burst open thats been in a pocket,I've always purchased from Rennik's and never(told this decades ago) go larger than 32.5mm.(Penny/Florin etc.).
I should also mention,if anyones interested, that i store all my bulk(several hundred) Pennies & Halves that are only worth a $1 or 2 in 42 pocket Renniks Sheets,no 2x2 just pushed into pocket.Back in the early 1990's i sorted  them into date order then placed them flat in lettuce boxes, these are waxed lined(not sure that is good or bad) and so far there hasn't been a problem.
