Has anyone tried to make a claim lately on Registered Post gone missing?
Recently had a baby coin set went missing from Wantirna to Frankston. I could walk faster than Aust Post Delivery.
Luckily I sent it Registered so I would be covered. Seems i'm not covered.
As they are coins Australia Post says that the set is not covered.  So I am out $95 because AP can't make a simple delivery.

Does anyone know of a 'Goods in Transit' policy/company that would cover coins and banknotes?

I'm interested in hearing peoples thoughts on insurance coverage.

JeffH

They are covered but Australia Post seems to have a practice of denying any claims in the hope you will go away.
I have claimed successfully but it was a big hassle.

Check out PART D – PROHIBITED GOODS of Australia Post Terms and Conditions in particular clause 57.1.13;
Quotecoins lodged for delivery within Australia which exceed a face value of more than $A200. For the avoidance of doubt, coins up to a limit not exceeding the face value of $A200, lodged for delivery within Australia, are not prohibited from carriage if lodged under the registered post service or under a parcel delivery service which requires a signature on delivery.
Be prepared to argue that the value of those coins is not the face value, with documentation to support that argument. Australia Post shop, Royal Australian Mint confirms that face value and actual value are not necessarily the same.

Registered post includes insurance up to $100 (more is available at extra cost) but parcel post does not included insurance unless it is paid for over and above the postal charge.

I have claimed a few times lately.
Recently I posted a registered post envelope with 10 x 20c federation coins. They were not delivered and the last tracking Aust Post had was sortation facility at Dandenong.
I lodged a claim and the lady told me I couldn't send coins in Registered Post envelopes that it was documents only.
I soon told her that one the bottom it say small rigid items such as keys or coins should be securely packed to avoid loss or damage.
She said that they would pay on this claim ( which I said was 10 tokens valued at $10 each = $100 claim ) but I couldn't use the registered post envelopes in future and to use a normal envelope and put the registered post label on that.
You don't tell them it is coins. I say "tokens" and if I post notes and they go missing or not delivered I say documents. Last time I said the notes were a collectable PNC and because I had the value at $200 for insurance they paid up. They don't know what is in the envelope if it is not delivered.

You have to keep you insurance / registered post receipt to make any claims.

Clause 57.1.13 says you are lowed to send coins up to the face value of $200 and must be lodged under Registered Post, it doesn't say that compensation is payable.

On the back of the multiple lodgement receipt form there is no mention of currency or coins only banknotes and bullion.
Although a lot of AP's printed form terms say that you cannot sent money more than the face value of $200, the updated online terms and conditions you refer to if you look at clause 71 Exclusions, it clearly states that coins are excluded.
71.1.1 containing bank notes, non-negotiable securities, bullion, negotiable securities,coins, precious or valuable stones, jewellery;

Victoria would have to be the worst state to send stuff.
I had notes sent from Camberwell to Glen Waverley.  After 2 weeks the sender put in a claim.
A month after they were sent I received them.  Let the sender know. We he contacted AP they said don't worry about it.
It is to much trouble to reverse a compensation claim.

Things used to go through Sunshine,  Never a problem.  Now it goes though Dandenong, delivery is slow and go missing.

They will weasel out of it if they can. There are plenty of contradictory statements in their Terms and Conditions. If you are persistent enough they will usually cough up. You have to decide how much time and effort you want to spend chasing the claim -is it worth it?

aust post , what a joke ,
 we applied for a passport each , so we could go overseas , we presented our marriage cert ,
  we received 56 years ago when we got married in Brisbane ,  ( the thing  ) at the Caboolture post office told us it was too old and we would have to apply for a new one each at the court house , and they would get the papers from Brisbane sent up for us to fill out then back to the court house in Caboolture to get them then we could then apply for a new passport each then  , after we receive our new passports papers then we can apply for our new passport . so I said don't worry about , its not worth the trouble .
  the    ( thing ) at the post office did not even mention to us we could get the 100 points from other papers including driver license  , rate notice , bank statements , or Medicare cards  ,or anything else . and remember these people breed , and reproduce .
take care because we care ..

Yes, that is a separate issue (but could have a common factor) -some staff at post Offices turn into little despots , completely forgetting why they are there (to assist the customers). Those people often only have a rudimentary understanding of the task but are convinced only they know the rules.
