I don't think there is any easy way to give up smoking, I have given it up half a dozen times in the last 20 years. the longest stretch is now being nine years, but I still get a craving for it. Always a battle for me reckon if I had one smoke it would kill me, but then I'd have a second one & I'd be back on them full time.
Apparently, it is easier to give up Heroin.

Day 3 and the craving has started to "Kick In", Luckily I am 30 odd K's from town to the nearest Fag shop .
I tried the GP avenue once and I ended up on some drugs that made me rather ill So that didn't work.
I am going to try my best with this but a 50 year old habit is a tough nut to crack.

I guess you know but i'll say it anyway, its best to replace one obsession/habit with another every time you get the urge to light one up,start sorting or noodling your Coins for eg.,go onto Ebay sites like the Oz,UK and USA and spend a few hours perusing listings etc.
Its works best with Hypnotic suggestions but can still work without it if you determined.

Just my 2c,you don't have to take any notice, good luck.

Good luck mate! Not sure if you've heard about the 5Ds, but they may help.

Distract - if you can do something else like sorting your precious coins, it will probably take your mind off for hours about smoking; I guess the tar and smoke just does not go with smoking anyway

Drink water - sometimes drinking water can help to fight off those urges; just make sure it isn't wine all the time

Deep breathe - another technique for settling cravings; concentrate on breathing for a few minutes and cravings might have died off by then

Delay - cravings last between 3 to 5 minutes usually, so if you can fight the urges for that period or distract yourself, you might tide over the strongest point just before you cave in

Discuss - tell friends and family just like you have here that you are trying to quit! A bit of encouragement and support can go a long way, and also remember to tell smoker friends and family to not offer you any!

Hopefully they help and I wish you success!

I hope things are still going well.
I have started a simple diet and it takes some self control as well.

Totally understandable Troutski ...... I still crave a smoke when I have a beer!

I was looking for a video of an ad on quitting and came across this.

Relapse is a common part of the quitting journey. Don't beat yourself up or get yourself down about smoking again. When you're ready, you can pick it up again.

If at first you don't succeed try, try, and try again.

Do not give up trying ....start again.

Any one of who were smokers and tried to give it up failed some where's along the line.

Give it another go and stay off the booze if you can.

Booze and smokes go together like husband and wife.
