A bad time in Melbourne last evening.

The Optus Internet went down at approx. 1757 hours, Wednesday, 08 Nov 2017 as well as our phone line and the Foxtel cable TV was also out from the same time.

By 2300hours, four or five phone calls to Optus lasting a total of 27 minutes and still being able to speak to a human, still no response from Optus to advise them that the system was down.

So overnight, I took the power supply off everything that we couldn't get going.

At around 0800 hours today, I phone Optus again and all they told me to do was to reset the NBN box and Modem by removing the power for approx. 10 mins.   Still not able top talk to anyone about it at all.

Next I phone Foxtel, cable TV, and what a difference.   Got speaking to a gent within a few minutes who advised me that there is a large area outage in my postcode and not expected to be fixed much before 1900 hours today.

With all the phone calls to Optus using my prepaid mobile, the cost was $35.92 and still nothing resolved.   I have now sent a letter to Optus requesting a refund on my prepaid mobile costs as I still have not spoken to anyone from Optus via a phone.

My neighbour was sighted around 1140 hours and I whilst speaking to him re the problem, he got a text on his phone advising him the outage had been restored/repaired.   I raced home and sure enough all is OK at present but for how long, nobody can tell.

From this problem may I warn all not to link ones home phone to an internet combo as I discovered, if it wasn't for my prepaid mobile and daughter in laws mobile, we couldn't communicate with anyone for something like 17 hours.

It makes me wonder how many of us can really do without this technology that failed me and quite a few where I live.

It took a while to realize that I still had saved music etc on my hard drives and that wifey and I enjoyed listening to those songs/tunes once again.

Several of which brought tears to my eyes once again.

You can get compensation for your inconvenience. Speak to them. If it doesnt work write to Telephone Ombudsmen.

This is NOT optional!

The NBN means that everything comes in on it. If you still had a copper phone line, it will be disconnected and moved to an NBN VoIP connection.

None of this would have been a problem if the great mass of imbeciles that is the australian voting public hadn't put these hopeless fools in power who screwed up what we were supposed to have.
