Interesting that the dot is not doubled.
Odd looking effect on the date too.

As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

The doubling effect on the bottom scroll is quite interesting as well.

The dot is added after the die is hubbed so it wouldn't be doubled. Nice coin.

Super coin Echi!!! :good:

Interesting how the last two A's of Australia also appear to have doubling.

Thanks for that concise explanation. So, should there be more coins like this one?

EDIT: I mean more 1919 pennies with the same doubling.

There are more out there and they can be found with a bit of searching.

I have four other examples of this coin in lower grade.

That's good to know and confirms my hunch. I had a look at my half dozen 1919 pennies but no such luck.

Thanks for the visual confirmation, a picture really is worth a thousand words. (I think in post #8 there is a backslash where there should be a forward slash in the image tag.)

You can see how once the coin wears down to a lower grade it takes with it a considerable amount of the doubling effect but enough remains to indicate they are the same.

There are over 100 die pairs and so it is a numbers game. If echidnas penny is from the die pair I think it is from then it should also have some doubling on the obverse at GEORGIUS VDG BR

:yahoo:  So, with a mintage of approx. 6 million (1919 inc.) that would be about 50k per pair - hard yakka churning out all those dies.

Pearls slightly doubled also.
