a coin club meeting a few years back was held at the RAM out of hours and they always open up the mint shop for us and offer 10% off everything ex the gold coins

the mint shop sold the very last ones to coin club members at the original sale value - think it was about $695 (corrected thanks coin collecting blogg)  

the more well heeled club members took the offer up instantly
us 'povo' ones just sat and watched the horror unfold

small club meeting with well over $5,000 in on the spot sales for the shop
I had bought one of those bracelet watches with a 1c coin in - very pretty watch (10% off as well) - then after that (i.e. spent my dough) they go out the back and bring out those sets to sell

That sucked! $695 is a large amount to spend in the hope the value goes up. However I would have done all I could to get one if I was there! Sorry to hear you missed out

the RAM have been pretty darn good to the local coin club for sure
it made being a collector even more fun
a couple of times they bring items out from the vault and give us an up close presentation
and before they started that web club they practised things with us, asked lots of questions etc like a focus group and one or two members then met with their marketing guys when they were trying to get it up and running
they even invite members to come and talk  at their staff meetings  to teach them about what collectors want & how we see coins (selected club members that is!!) not moi
