Enlilninlil

I would like to know the state of the numismatic market. So if anyone sells, please write what you think is good and bad in the market lately. Coins and banknotes, all places and all time periods.

Thank you
Glen.

Sell?

SELL?

What be this sorcery of which ye speak? :dodgy:

Seriously though, selling has always been problematic. Dealers either don't want it or pay a pittance. eBay is a den of thieves. Auctions only really make money for the people running them...

There is very, very little that's actually worth selling, and finding willing buyers is like finding a matching pair of needles in a very large haystack.

It can be done, but I think if you surveyed everyone in this forum, or indeed the entire hobby, you would find very few 'winners'.

I don't sell my good stuff and only offload coins that have no or little chance
of increasing in value

I sell coins all the time. However, hardly make any money selling coins. when I upgrade, old ones go on ebay or numisbid auction. I keep all my high end coins... at the moment, its a buyers market...
Collecting coins is not about having the best, but loving what you have ...

I figured, I do sell coins by the way, but for my price, otherwise I might as well just keep the dam thing.

And this is why we're, you know, Collectors.

As distinct from Traders, Dealers, Merchants or whatever.

The way I look at it, its a hobby. And all hobbies cost money. You can blow a bundle chasing a little ball around a (admittedly pretty) park, or you can buy things that you can hold, admire and show off.

Disposing of them will probably be someone else's problem for most of us. :zomby:

Prices have fallen considerably. Everything was overpriced before and there is a lot that is still overpriced in my opinion but I had a look at auction results for rare star note banknotes recently (admittedly not coins but obviously similar) and over the past 10 years from 2005 and 2015 the prices had approximately halved. That's a 50% drop in 10 years. That's a terrible investment.

Hopefully prices cycle and don't just keep falling.I was comparing the current bluesheet to pricing from 1 year ago against my collection yesterday and some prices had dropped by up to about 70% but mostly the prices had risen by a couple of % and overall seem to be stable but is bluesheet pricing a good guide for market value?

Total bluesheet price reduction for 350 slabbed coins for the last 12 months worked out to be about 4%.The collection being represented across the board by high grade early decimal and a good selection of quality pre decimal coins so certainly not a doom and gloom price movement
