I think this coin changed hands way before Facebook. Nonetheless fortune favours the brave.

PS - I should stop trying to post here using a mobile phone. Half of what I type is not what is posted :dodgy: auto corrected but what the phone think is correct
Collecting coins is not about having the best, but loving what you have ...

I'm not sure if I would call it "Brave" based on those images "Dumb Luck" is more likely the scenario
But good luck to whoever ended up with this coin, a fantastic addition.

You'd be better off buying the Merivale Bridge. At least then you'd have a monopoly on Brisbane train fares until CRR is built. This will only ever happen under a Labor government, so you might want to campaign for the Coalition in order to maximise your profits. Meanwhile, the rest of us will be sitting in crowded commuter trains uttering curse words. :winkextra:

QuoteI wouldn't use them for selling as they're just unprofessional but I'd happily buy from those photos.

I very much doubt that you would put 40-70k on the line on the basis of those images Walter, Unless you have seen the coin "In Hand" or had information from other people as to If the coin was "Kosher" and the grade warranted the price.

Seriously you can't expect collectors to go "Oh Wow" or "By Crikey" about a coin based on those crappy images:angel:

QuoteI agree, I was happy to handover $$$$ to buy that coin from those photos.  no luck though

"JEEZ'' Buying a coin for a price tag of 40--70k without viewing the coin in person would be a very unsafe practice. Base jumping from high rise towers would be safer.:yahoo:

I have no idea really, but I doubt anything like these amounts would have been paid, particularly back in the early days of the internet. Lots of good stuff went cheap in the early 2000's, and the buyer in all likelihood probably got it for a song, and good luck to them.

MR Roberts. Wynyard Coin Centre is selling a 1923 halfpenny PCGS AU50 for $12.500.    My rough estimate would be. AU53 $16.500. AU55 $21.000. AU58 $27.000. MS60 $35.000. MS61 $45.000. and MS62 $58.000. The coin candy 1923 looks like it could go to MS63RB. $75.000 EASY.

Sure stan, but what I was alluding too is that Steve has said this coin was purchased on ebay in the early 2000's, therefore, it's possible it may have sold for much less than its true value then because in the early days of ebay there were many bargains to be had. Maybe the buyer did pay the right weight, maybe they got a bargain, that's all I'm saying without really knowing anything I might add.

I think someone has already said the owner is a forum member here, come on, give us a hint to how much it cost :beg::)

Hi Auto, I wasn't knocking your post. I quite liked your humility. Good luck to the bloke. I hope he has years of enjoyment transfixed looking at that little beauty. My post was just an estimate of what it could be worth today. All good Maaate.:yahoo:

No worries Stan, I wasn't burring up Mate, I just thought there may have been some confusion that's all, and was all mine
