Fulvio

Whaaaaat??? Shouldn't have... :dodgy:

These were the Red/Blue/Green/Yellow ones, right? AFAIK they're PP, but I'll check.

Whups... just found at least one manufacturer making them out of PS. Yes, that will dissolve in Acetone. :(

Back in 2003 I began to put together a collection of decimal mint sets. One thing I noticed back then was that some wallets were on the sweaty side, and not really knowing what I was doing, decided to remove all coins and place them in 2X2's.

At the time I hadn't had the benefit of input from others in the hobby and wasn't aware of the danger posed by chemicals such as PVC, so the coins have sat in the darkness for the last 12 years.

Have spent the past two weeks bathing the coins in acetone, and thanks to a few tips picked up here the process was straight forward enough, though boy O boy, it was just in the nick of time. There were a couple that are past it, and even though all had suffered previous exposure, many more coins may have gone that way if they hadn't been separated from the source of contamination when they were.

So I know I got lucky, but also appreciate the benefits that the sharing of knowledge can bring, whether that be from being a member of a club or forum such as ACF, or just from talking to people with similar interests. :)
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

Gee, lucky. Better than learning the hard way.

Well done and a very good reason not to buy any decimal wallet pre 1984 the red wallets were all the same some pricks try to sell these as genuine with nice shiny coins but they are all swapped coins in sweaty folder the 1966 wallets are collectable but best buy early decimal coins individually

Next time you go to the hospital, grab some of those disposable plastic tweezers. Scissors too while you're at it. Better than sending them to a landfill after one use.
Encouraging stealing from the under funded hospitals ? OMG this is the most disgusting reply to a post on any forum coins or not.

For Gods sake Runway, get your facts right before you start abusing people.
The scissors and tweezers are "single use only" and once they have been used they get thrown away :ok:
All fulvio was suggesting is to recycle these for use with coins instead of just being tossed into the rubbish bin.
Aim well to enjoy life. You only get One shot at it.

Hello,

For a number of reasons you may not be able to get theses items. Liability if there is contamination or any injury related. We have followed the US with rewarding stupidity. If you know someone who works there, different story though. Look on E bay or try a Medical / First Aid supplier. Even a large Chemist. ( buy them new ) I dont like to see things wasted, but it is how everything works now. I worked at a place where we threw out items that people always wanted as a " souvenir " The official policy was no, because if someone clobbered another with them we could be liable. They were put in the Bin. I gave a few away, and said " this is the one you found in the skip over there " pointing to where they normally go.
