Just thought it was about time to check in and see how everyone is going in their role as mod.

I'm not finding that I have to do anything at all! I activated one user this week. Nancy seems to be our resident spam controller so they're not getting in the door. Everyone seems to be on the most part behaving themselves, no need for post editing or deleting.

Email abuse from Peter Johnson has ceased so he's either found a way in and is quiet or is sulking in another forum that he's enjoying without us (his words).

I check in every day as usual. Not much to do; which is the way you want a forum to be, though ideally we'd have more members.

I don't think Barry and I have access to the new member approval section. If we do, I've never found it.

We could have heaps more members but they'd mostly be spammers. :dodgy:

I've been keeping a list of the ones I personally have deleted since mid - late Nov, and the count is up to 406, so add on any I deleted prior to that time and ones dealt with by Mark and Kathryn and I guess it'd be well into the 500's, possibly more.

Only Super Moderators can activate new users.  I think the only difference between a moderator and a super moderator is the ability to approve new members.  Nancy is doing a fine job of this and maintaining a list of spammers for me to nuke each week.  I'd rather keep it that way for now because it's working very well.

I think I have had to moderate one thread since the forum was started.  Hardly a crushing work-load.  I am wondering now if I should moderate the new McDonalds book thread?  Do you lot think I did the wrong thing pointing out the images he's used without our permission?

It possibly could have been handled off line, but the way I see it now is that it's all done and dusted, so let it be.  Maybe lock the thread?

I didn't like ausjack's latest comments directed at Greg, but I also didn't feel comfortable in issuing him a warning or in editing the post, knowing that he has had who knows what type of surgery on his head, and what problems he has acquired as a result of that.

Years ago, one of my nieces, 13 yrs old then, had 2 lots of brain surgery for abcesses, and she became very violent, tried to kill her mother (my sister) a couple times. She had to be completely re-educated, had no sense of right from wrong, and was a real hand-full. She's about 50 now, and her older sister still refuses to have any contact with her at all for the problems she caused her while they were growing up. She threatened to kill her older sister's 10 day old baby in 1986 at her mothers funeral.  A very scary situation for the whole family.

I think it got an apology out of him, maybe not something we would have got if it hadn't been made public.  I must confessed we were so shocked that he had done it that we just posted something up.  We certainly tried to keep calm about it.  And with a few days thinking time the shock has subsided.

Ausjack is a strange one all right!  There is one point of his I agree with.  Greg suggesting it's "all give and take".  As far as I can see he takes our information and our money and what exactly does he give?

That's an awful situation Nancy.

From my own point of view members such as Ausjack seem (albeit innocently) promoting such threads about what you do/where are you from. Whilst innocent and inkeeping with a "family" feel I'm sure some of you will agree the nature of our collecting opens us up to a huge security risk if we post private information about ourselves such as our full names, pictures of our houses, pictures of us etc. I am uneasy about such threads.
