Have you ever lost a coin?

Have you ever lost a coin?  I did.

I brought a Goose dollar in 2006 for $450 and it has kinda just hung around - not belonging anywhere.  I took it out a few years ago to a coin show and put in back - or so I thought.

Yesterday I couldn't find it.  I looked everywhere.  I even found a stack of coins that I forgot that I had - coins that I collected when I first started, not of a great quality - but still nice.  Then I started to remember that I haven't seen it for a few years - in fact I could not remember when I last saw it.  What it I took it out to the coin show and dropped it somewhere?  On no!

I still couldn't find it.  I almost resigned myself to shelling out more money to replace it - but I decided that it would be gone from my collection for good.  Too expensive to replace now.

Then suddenly, just now, I remembered that I temporally moved it many years ago and had not moved it back.  Thankfully a happy ending.

Have you ever lost a coin that you re-found; or even that you never found?

I misplaced 2 pennies a year ago (better grade 1920 variety pennies), took them to Fred to write an article and afrerwards couldn't locate them. Found them some time later having put them back in the wrong folder.

Many, many snows ago, I moved our family to another U S state for a better job. The day before we moved, I checked that my coin collection was in our vehicle....it was. Then I remembered that I had a few coins in 2 x 2s on top of a china cabinet that was built into a corner. I looked on top, and began to grab the 5 or 6 coins that were there. OOPS, 2 of them fell behind the built in cabinet. I checked the coins I retrieved. I was missing a U S 1863 silver 3 cent piece plus a 2 cent piece. The house was sold, we're leaving in the morning, and I didn't want to tear out the cabinet for the coins in a house I didn't own. Oh well, I'm assuming the coins are still there.

I took some piccies of some 1c error coins a couple days ago, went to put them away this morning and 'pfttt' they're gone!  This is about the umpteenth dozen time this has happened to me. Odd part of it is, I also did some 2c ones at the same time, and I've located them. :scratch_one-s_head:

I lost a coin by selling it to a dealer for around 10% of it's market value. 1966 20 cent wavey baseline UNC.

Haha dreamcatcher - sounds to me like like you were robbed!

Took me over a week just recently to find a bag of Fiji 1¢ and 2¢ coins I had put away, some time ago, for future (i.e. now) sorting.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Heheh! I just found them.  I have a separate container for all my Lam, Pl Flaws etc, and I'd put all the 1c errors in there.  One problem solved, about another 999,999 to go. :winkextra:

I loose coins all the time due to my totally disorganised way of storing stuff.
The absolute beauty of this is when I do eventually stumble upon the miscreant coin it is defiantly a "Feel Good' moment :)

Hi Wavey. Yes I felt very much robbed. I was uninformed at the time and didn't know how to get the information I needed to value coins or find a market for it myself.

Needless to say when I figured out what had happened I never went back to that dealer again.

Sorry, this isn't a story that fits the typical scenario, but has remained on my mind for years. It was 1958 - 59, I was standing on the riverbank looking into a magnificent clear pool of water that was the local swimming hole. The sun was eluminating the gravel river bed, it all looked so inviting, and in my hand was a two bob piece my Mother had given me to buy a drink or whatever. I figured it would be fun to throw the coin into the water and dive for it, which I did, but hadn't anticipated the outcome. The moment my two bob hit the water I think every kid in town did as well, it was like diving into a washing machine, never did see that coin again. Knowing my luck it was probably a 1932, but it was going to be spent in any case, just not by me
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!
